Hi everyone,

Well I arrived safely back in the UK yesterday and thought I would open my thread ready for my trip report which is in the making as I speak.

Please check back soon for updates.

Ryan :)

Wow so many returners from DLRP and so many TR's:banana: ! I can't wait to see and read them all!

Welcome back:goodvibes . I can't wait to read your report.

:) Welcome back Ryan!
Looking forward to hearing all about your trip!

Day 1 – 11th April 2007

Everyone arose at 5.00am to the chorus of alarm clocks and mobile phones ringing, the day we had all been waiting for had finally arrived.

After a couple of last minute checks and a quick bite to eat we heard our 6.15 Taxi turn up outside our house ready to take us to the Moto Exeter Service Station.

At 6.45am everyone was onboard the coach and we set off on hour 12 hour journey to Disneyland Paris. There were twice as many adults as there were children on the coach and it was hard to tell who was more excited.

After a couple of toilet stops and much leg stretching we arrived at the Eurotunnel at 2.00pm and boarded straight away. As it was the first time on the Eurotunnel for a few people there were a few nervous laughs and jokes based on the tunnel collapsing but all were soon relieved after a few minutes after setting off.

Bonjour!, we arrived at 3.25pm (French Time) in Calais and continued with our remaining 4 hour journey to Disneyland Paris.

After just a few more toilet stops, leg stretching and a 10 minute traffic jam we saw our first sign that said Disneyland Parc which was soon followed by another three. Then we caught glimpse of the Sleeping Beauty Castle and Disney Studios Water Tower, we knew it wouldn’t be long.

As we turned off the road and on to Disneyland Paris grounds there were huge cheers from the children and adults which was the first noise the children had made for the entire journey (amazing huh’?...not even an ‘are we there yet?’). :cool1:

The first drop was at the Sequoia Lodge which was our hotel and after unloading our luggage our driver collected our welcome packs from reception and we rushed off to find our hotel room.

We were in the Sierra Lodge – Room No: 351 which was a few minutes walk away from the central lodge and restaurants but practically opposite the swimming pool and other facilities, unfortunately we ran out of time to use the swimming pool or take any photographs of this.

The hotel room was large and had huge windows in the main sleeping area which let in loads of light and consequently heat too, so the air conditioning which wasn’t greatly effective, spent most of it’s time on even when we left the hotel room.

The bathroom was split into two parts, a washbasin and hanging space which was just as you walked inside the hotel room (you couldn’t open the hotel room door if someone was using the washbasin incase somebody saw you from the hallway) and then there was a door which lead into another room containing a toilet and bath with a powerful overhanging shower.

After unpacking and resting our legs from the cramped coach journey we decided to book into one of the hotels restaurants for something to eat. We chose to eat at 9.00pm at the Hunters Grill and was shown to our table by our lovely waiter called Alessandro who made us laugh.

We chose to select just a main course from the menu which cost €17 per head and a bottle of white wine.

I can’t remember what we chose exactly but my Mum and I felt really poorly from travel sickness caused by the coach swaying so much, so we left my Sister and Niece along with most of our food and went straight to bed.

When my Sister and Niece arrived back at the hotel room we were feeling a little better and they told us that they had wondered around the hotel and had seen the most amazing scene of lights and music across a lake (which we didn’t realize was Lake Disney until the next morning).

Well that’s it for Day 1, please check back for Day 2 soon.

Great start - I lived in Exeter until a year ago.

It's still strange hearing the service stations called Moto, it's Granada damnit!

Great start Ryan, we travelled by coach a few weeks back so now what you mean about leg stretching, you're journey was probably a little quicker than our as we made the crossing by ferry - but I was impressed with the journey and I'd definately go by coach again.
can't wait to read Day 2 and everyone's reaction to Disneyland. :goodvibes

What a great start :thumbsup2 Lots of lovely detail!
You were very lucky with how good the kids were.
Was your coach company Leger?

Can't wait to read the rest :woohoo:

Hi dlpSteve,

Yes it is strange referring to it as Moto Exeter.

Whilst typing my review I realised that I had typed Granada and had to go back and change it lol

Hi Raci,

No our coach company wasn't Leger it was Kingdoms of Tiverton.

It should have been a Majestic coach as the company we booked with (Majestic) had their own executive coaches but they sold them a month after we booked to save themselves money :(

Day 2 – 12th April 2007

Unfortunately the morning of our first day didn’t exactly go to plan.

Somehow everyone managed to sleep through the 6.00am alarm clock and we eventually woke up at around 10.00am consequently missing breakfast so we left the hotel room with an empty stomach.

We made our way around Lake Buena Vista and into the busy metropolis that is Disney Village, walking slowly and taking everything in. We stopped quickly for some late breakfast in McDonalds which was surprisingly cheaper than the High Street chains back in the UK.

We headed onwards towards the parks and just after exiting the security clearance area I suddenly remembered SandraVB79’s post regarding the ‘rope-drop’ ceremony and one time cast member’s parade and realized that we had missed that as well…I felt absolutely gutted! :sad1:

Luckily that feeling soon disappeared after passing through the Disneyland Park gates and walking into the sights and sounds of Main Street USA, it was so beautiful and the attention to detail was absolutely amazing.

Then everyone spotted the Sleeping Beauty Castle…we just stood there open-mouthed and completely still  , it really was like living in a fairytale…oh how I envy those cast members lol

Suddenly music started playing and we were ushered back onto the pavements by cast members, people were now running out of shops to join us. In the distance we could see giant letters which spelt DISNEYLAND, each disguised as a Disney character, dancing their way up Main Street USA. We later found out that this was the ‘Alpha Bet You Are’ parade which cleverly used a cover version of the Mickey Mouse theme tune. :yay:

After the parade finished we looked at the park map and decided that the first ride we should go on was The Phantom Manor. We had heard a lot about this ride and it was one of the few rides that my Sister would go on with her troublesome back.

When we arrived at The Phantom Manor it seemed quite busy and the waiting time said 20 minutes but it was more like 10 minutes. We made our way to the front doors along with the others and were ushered in by a cast member dressed in a purplish top-hat and tails. We continued to walk into the stretching room and another cast member jumped out from the dark straight on to my Sister who screamed at the top of her lungs, the rest of us just collapsed in a fits of laughter.
Our conclusion of this ride was simply fantastic although my Mum commented that the designers had a sick and twisted mind lol

After the ride we decided to split up and meet back around 5.00pm at the steps of the Sleeping Beauty Castle, so my Mum and Sister went off to look at the shops and myself and Niece made a start on the rides.

The rides we went on were;

• Blanche-Neige et les Sept Nains
• Alice’s Curious Labryinth
• Space Mountain: Mission 2
• The Dragons Lair (under The Sleeping Beauty Castle)

The reason for the lack of rides ridden was due to queue lengths being around 45-90 minutes long and the Fast Pass return times were around 9.00pm which would have been cutting it fine.

We watched the ‘Disney Character Parade’ train but I deleted the video footage I had taken as I thought it was going to continue around the Central Plaza and come back on my side of the street…it didn’t!...however my Mum and Sister had seen it four times that day and had lots of pictures lol

We also saw the parts of the ‘Once Upon A Dream’ parade but as it had started just before we got off of Space Mountain: Mission 2 we didn’t get a fantastic view but it was still fantastic.

After the parade we met up with my Mum and Sister and headed back to the Disney Village shops before returning to our hotel room for a rest and freshen up.

Later on that evening we had a few drinks (and tried our French) in the hotel bar before heading into McDonalds for tea, this was then followed by a night cap back at the hotel bar.

Well that’s it for Day 2, please check back for Day 3 soon.

Glad the park day made up for not feeling great after travel day :goodvibes

A great day. :goodvibes A cast member spooked me at Phantom Manor last summer, he frightened the life out of me but my DDs found it hilarious. ;)

Day 3 – 13th April 2007

Determined not to make the same mistakes as the day before we made sure that everybody’s mobile phone alarms were set to go off at 6.00am and agreed that anyone who didn’t attempt to move would get the wet flannel treatment!

Anyway everyone got up fine and was showered and seated in the Beaver Creek Tavern for breakfast by 7.30am…I think the threat of the wet flannel treatment must have worked :rotfl:

The variety of food offered was fantastic, there were four types of cereal, five types of bread (including Gluten Free), platters of meats and cheeses, yoghurts, fruit salad and of course pain au chocolat and croissants. The variety of drinks offered where just as fantastic, there was orange juice, a variety of teas and herbal teas and a vending machine that provided several different variations of coffee i.e. cappuccino, latte macchiato…etc :coffee:

Around 9.00am and after packing a couple of croissants in our rucksack we were ready to hit the parks. As we had seen most of the parades at the Disneyland Park we decided that we would visit the Disney Studios first and then return to the Disneyland Park later as we had booked to eat at Walts at 9.00pm. This turned out to be a great idea as it was the hottest day during or holiday and most of the rides were indoors and air conditioned. :cool2:

It was amazing walking through Studio 1 and seeing all the neon lights, giant palm trees and huge props all around but seeing the Tower of Terror ride looming over you when you exit certainly tops that. I’m not sure if the physical building stage is completed yet but I know there were a few places that needed the Studio 1 paint before they start adding the Disney Magic pixiedust: which gives the aged look i.e. cracks, broken windows and the lightning burn mark. I wonder if any internal work has been done yet and if so, what exactly?...I can’t wait to ride this! :scared1:

The first ride everyone decided to go on was the Armageddon attraction which we all agreed was out of this world, though the queuing took 25 minutes in the sun. We were in front of the flames that shot from the sides and boy was that HOT!, also the cast members were certainly alive and ready to give us a show…everyone applauded them.

The next ride was a little too much for my Mum and Sister so just Myself and Niece went on the Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster which is unbelievably fast, so fast in fact that my eyes were watering throughout the entire ride. My Niece was shaking with adrenalin when we got off and so the only cure was to ride it again straight away and as a bonus the waiting time had dropped from 10 minutes which we waited for the first time to just 5 minutes. :woohoo:

The last ride that I can clearly remember going on was the Studio Tram Tour. This too is a really great ride/tour and it’s amazing to see how much goes into creating a short action scene like that. I also was gob-smacked at how realistic the ‘London’ scene looked, it was really like being transported back to the UK in seconds…hats off to Disney! :thumbsup2

After this the ‘Disney Cinemagique’ parade was due to start so we staked a place where we could see and watched it all the way through whilst cooking in the sun lol

I thought that the parade was rather short compared to the ‘Once Upon A Dream’ parade, perhaps this was due to the heat?! When the parade had finished we had a look through all the shops and then proceeded to walk back to the hotel to unwind and freshen up ready for the evening.

At 6.00pm Myself and Niece were all dolled up in our evening clothes and left to try and ride the remaining rides at the Disneyland Park before meeting up later with my Mum and Sister to eat at Walts.

The park at this time was considerably less busy so we headed straight towards Big Thunder Mountain where we found the waiting time was 90 minutes so we continued up to Indiana Jones et le Temple du Peril hoping that the waiting time would be greatly reduced nearer to park closing.

Now here’s a creepy thing…my Niece had a nightmare on our first night that a ride would breakdown with either us on it or not and with Friday 13th being one of the days during a stay we hoped that it wouldn’t come true. As we approached the Indiana Jones et le Temple du Peril ride we were greeted with sounds of a pre-recorded ride breakdown spiel and they were getting people off the ride who were stuck at the very top…how’s that for creepy?!

Both the ride operators and ride technicians were all unsure as to why the ride had given an alert and stopped itself…regardless of this we rode it twice straight off the moment it was reported fixed! :goodvibes

Our next ride was the Pirates of The Caribbean pirate: and we only had to wait 15 minutes before boarding. Now in the park map it didn’t mention it anything about their being a log flume otherwise I would have run a mile because I’m petrified of them and boats too so you can only imagine the look on my face when I felt the front of the boat tip downwards and gazed upon the frothing water at the bottom of the flume :scared: …you’ll be happy to know that I survived and now I want higher log flumes (but lets not go too mad too quickly).

I must say now that this ride is incredible and I can’t wait to ride it next time (with upcoming changes). I love the way it begins with a tranquil boat ride around the bay where people are eating in the restaurant and into deeper waters with the awesome projected skies and simulated tropical breeze…anyone for a cocktail?

It was now around 8.30pm and so we headed back towards Big Thunder Mountain for a chance to ride it. We got our hopes up as we got closer, it didn’t look busy and the waiting time said 4 minutes but as we approached, our view of the board changed and it actually said 45 minutes meaning we would be late for or reservation at Walts so we left it until our next visit which I hope won’t be too far away. :)

We met up with my Mum and Sister at the Central Plaza and headed to Walts where there was a queue of people hoping to get in without a reservation *tut tut*. We waited a few minutes in the beautifully decorated waiting area downstairs and admired the beautiful glass elevator whilst they prepared our table which didn’t take all that long.

We were then told to go upstairs where we were shown to our table which overlooked the Cable Car Bake Shop in Main Street USA and met our waiter for the evening who was called Baptiste :groom: .

For a report of our meal at Walts please see post http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=18143339&postcount=44

At around 10.30pm we left Walts and slowly made our way towards the exits of the now silent Disneyland Park with the remaining guests, taking a few last pictures of the park and Sleeping Beauty Castle with its lights on. I think everyone shed a small tear :sad1: because we knew this was the last time we would be in the park until the next time…we also had a few laughs too as my Niece was feeling the effects of the small carafe of wine she’d had to herself and was trying to be a hip-hop dancing Tinkerbell :tinker: :rotfl2: .

When we got back to the Disney Village it was ‘alive with the sound of music’ (haha spot the line from a well-known Disney film) and people were singing and dancing everywhere:dancer: . We look around the shops for some last minute souvenirs whilst my Mum stood in the street doing the Macarena to the passing band…she does things like that!

After we had done some serious shopping we headed back to the Sequoia Lodge where I ordered everyone a cappuccino (in French) and we sat and watched the searchlight beams which lit the sky above Disney Studios.

Well that’s it for Day 3, please check back for Day 4 (our last) soon.

You packed a fair bit into day 3 :) Looking forward to next installment.

For anyone who has seen the London Underground station scene on the Studio Tram Tour - watch Reign of Fire, it's the exact set from the film which Disney transported to Disneyland Resort Paris.

Look at you calling Lake Disney by it's orginal name, Lake Buena Vista ;)

Good reading again - we want more!

I wasn't quite sure what the lake was called but I remember it being referred to as Lake Buena Vista in various places throughout Disneyland Resort Paris...when did it become Lake Disney?...I think I prefer Lake Buena Vista, sounds fancy :)

I didn't know they transferred the set from Reign of Fire to Disneyland Resort Paris, I thought it was just filmed there!...imagine how much work must have been put in to move it and probable reassemble it.

Does anyone know how heavy some of the props (i.e. the greek heads and dinosaur sculptures at the dinotopia) set weigh...they can't be solid
