This was our second trip to DW (2003 the other). We now have 4 children (DS11,DS9,DD6,DD1). I had a conference at the Gaylord Palms on the 14th-16th. So, we stayed at AS Music for the 10th-13th, then moved to GP. We got a five day MYW pass. We purchased MYW dining as well.
Trip Comments:
AS Music was a pleasant surprise. We stayed at Caribbean Beach last time. We had 2 adjoining rooms and really enjoyed it. The pools and the decor were nice. I liked the fact that ASM isn't as spread out as CB. There was very little if any noise at night. We stayed in the Rock building.
Food was great for the most part. Our table service restaurants were the Crystal Palace, Boma's and Sci-Fi. Out of pocket, we also had Biergarten and Trails-End Buffet. Our lunches were Flame-Tree, Cosmic Rays (2) and Toy Story Pizza Planet. Crystal Palace was great. DD1 was scared of characters however. Boma's was very good. DW said it was fantastic. All the kids liked it. Sci-Fi was a little disappointing. I thought the food was better last time we ate there. Kids enjoyed it though. We enjoyed Biergarten's atmosphere. We liked the food, but not as much as CP or Boma's. Loved the Black Forest Cake.
We liked all of the lunch spots. Dining plan was a definite plus. We ate more than we would have otherwise, but we really enjoyed the places and food that we ate and saved quite a bit of money. DS9 can't wait until next time when he can order off the adult menu.
The parks were great. MK was busy on Veteran's day, but not too bad. We never waiting more than 20 minutes and that was only once for Pirates of the Caribbean. The other rides with 45-60 waits (Splash, Space, BT, Buzz), we fast-passed. Contrary to what I have read, our kids like Stich's Great Escape. We were somewhat disappointed with Soarin'. It was nice, but didn't live up to our expectations. We enjoyed the Magic of Disney Animation which was closed the last time we were there. Two rides worth skipping (Enchanted Tiki Room, Jungle Cruise). Not very popular in our group. We enjoyed the Pocantas show at AK. We didn't get to it last time. The woman who plays Pocantas is very good. She was doing autographs and pictures earlier in the day at Rafiki's Planet Watch and she was exceptionally kind and patient with all of the children there. The Motors, Lights stunt show was a big hit with our boys. We were at MGM on Super Soap weekend, but the ride/attractions were not busy. We never waited more than 10 minutes for anything (TT and RRR were fast-passed).
Annoyance: Having two dining cards (because we had 2 rooms) was a pain in the butt. The cashiers and servers hated it too. They've got to change that.
Lesson learned: When in doubt, get a fast pass. We used every one we had and it saved us many hours waiting in line. It was great to learn that CM's accept expired passes. That really gives you flexibility.
