Hi,
Just back from 5 nights at HRH. My parents stayed at the RPR so we visited there quite a bit, too.
Excellent trip. Took Cartier Towncars from airport to HRH. Prompt, friendly, good value. Included grocery stop.
We had Enter. rate of $125./standard room. Presented Loews blue card and received milk and cookies that first night. No room upgrade offered.
Loved the easy access to parks from HRH. Really the best location by far, I think. That short cut behind the pool was great. Accidently got on the "scenic" path one day returning from US and man what a difference! Long and winding! Speaking of long and winding....whoever designed that path from City Walk to RPR should try walking it a few times in the heat after having just walked for hours through the parks! That path is pretty but the loops are absurd. They need a BRIDGE! I kept telling myself just be glad you are able-bodied and a fast walker! My elderly parents couldn't do it. My husband had to run back to the hotel to get them wheelchairs.
As far as style goes, I prefered the look of the RPR. Gorgeous! But the HRH is in such a primo location. It was very nice looking too and we enjoyed the memorabilia. I couldn't hear the music in the pool. The only place the music was really noticeable was in the lobby. I thought the green bedspreads were nice looking with all the white. Nice, comfortable chairs and beds. We were in 6011 and had a little bit of a trek to ice and elevators but not bad. (I overheard a kid say "awesome hotel but the halls are too long!") Has any one had a room near the ice machines? They seem awfully loud to me and I wondered if they disturbed people in the rooms nearby.
I've seen it written on these boards a number of times but I must repeat..........that FOTL perk is WONDERFUL. Our teenaged son was really impressed with that, I think. I told him about it before we left but I don't think he really believed me. I'm not sure I really believed me. We did everything, saw everything and did a bunch of stuff a lot. The Dueling Dragons were a bit much for me but I loved Hulk. Loved that blast off! Didn't care for the theming in that section of the park though. Too industrial, ominous, stealy. Loved the theming at Lost Continent. Beautiful.
We used that 20% off AAA coupon a lot. Thanks again to the kind board member who directed me to it. Great deal.
Meals:
HardRock Cafe-good,loud
Margaritaville-good, loud
Islands @ RPR-very good (sea bass) and a visit from Popeye and Oliveoil!
Tchoup Chop-excellent,beautiful
Sunset Grill @ HRH-good. We weren't planning to eat here but it started to rain really hard so we just stayed in. We had planned to go over to PBH for dinner. My only disappointment with the whole trip was that we never made it over to PBH. Next time!
When I called about Priority Seating at Margaritaville they said I didn't need it, just show room key. I did. They gave me the little flashy thing to tell me when the table was really and I had barely walked 10 steps when it started flashing! That's fast!
In the parks we mostly just snacked. Icecream, milkshakes (Schwab's) Had one meal at the Enchanted Oak Tavern. Very tender chicken. Never made it to Mythos. Just peeked inside to see how pretty it was. Next time!
Husband and son went a movie (Matrix) one night at CityWalk cineplex. We received free tickets with new Universal Mastercard. I had to call them 2 times though to get the tickets!
The phones were a little odd at HRH. There were 2. One only worked on speaker phone. The other phone said how to call other onsite properties but it didn't work. Had to go through operator to call RPR from HRH. However, could call direct from RPR to HRH. Go figure. I think they were in the process of changing the phones and HRH just wasn't there yet.
I could easily have spent another day just hanging out at the pool but the parks kept calling. Just couldn't get enough!
I could go on and on but this is too long already! Wonderful place and this board and Kelly Monoghan's book made it even better!
