Trip Planning Trip - Buy a book?

That's how I did it when I planned for our trip a couple years ago. Researched, got UG, read that, then obsessed over the forums for months gaining as much info as possible. Also used Tour Guide Mike. This go around I got the book, but then regretted that a bit and went with the touringplans.com subscription. I'm a 'power planner' now, so the book is more of a once-in-a-while-reference.

Good idea reading, seems less and less is read these days. A friend used a VIP service and I was floored by what they spent. I think with a little planning and time here on the boards you will do great.

Which guide book is the best in terms of information?

I read the Unnofficial Guide, Frommer's, Fodor's, and can't decide which is the best bang for your buck?

have their own styles. Of the three that you have listed, I prefer The Unofficial Guide. It is the most comprehensive planning book encompassing even rental car agencies at the Orlando airport. I still pull it out to reference the travel times between locations. I am reading an older Frommer's that I go for free to see the style. So far, it's not my style. I have not read Fodor's.

There are others. I like the Complete Guide to Walt Disney World. I don't always agree with the ratings in the book (that goes for all of them), but I like the facts that put out there about rides and interesting things to see in the parks. It also has some great pictures. The UG has a companion book with photos but it costs almost as much as the Complete Guide.

I also loved the unofficial guides and used them extensively to plan our group's trip. The touring plans were not so useful, they really weren't necessary since we went during the very off season.

I would also recommend Googling the area. Somehow the fly-over view helped me understand how everything was arranged when nothing else did.

All the advanced planning really paid off. Our group had a marvelous time and is planning a return trip! That extended family members are excited about vacationing together again speaks VOLUMES.
