Hi,

I'm planning a trip to Disney September 28 - October 2nd and was wondering if I should get the trip insurance offered by Disney?

I'm not so worried about one of us getting sick more about the weather.

Thanks!

I do .But it is a personal preference( and Dh is anal). Disney does have a hurricaine policy..Maybe someone here knows better.:goodvibes

I don't buy the trip insurance but many people do. For us, the penalty for a cancellation was about the same cost as the insurance. I decided to just chance it and have never had to cancel a vacation due to weather or illness.

With 3 kids, one with really bad asthma, we had to go with the insurance for our trip in November. Its just an added extra piece of mind

I have never bought it before. I could have used it in Feb. We went to bed after the Super Bowl for two more full days after having been in WDW 1 1/2 days and my son who is asthmatic began coughing in the middle of the night and had a 103fever in the morning, so I had to get flight out that day to go home. Not only did I not get any refund, but I had to spend another $300 to change my flight back. The insurance would have cost about $125 and would have reinbused my unused package. I will get insurance from now on, and would suggest it for anyone with small children.:thumbsup2

We have gotten the insurance for the last several years after a death in the family. we had to cancel a trip 1 week prior. We did not get back the cost of the insurance and the air . The Disney website has all " the fine print"

I always get some sort of insurrance when I do major vacations whether it be thru the airline or the travel agency. This trip, I booked thru disney and did choose the insurrance. For my famliy of 4, it only cost us $100 when I booked my package. It's also covering our plane tickets even though I didn't book my airfare thru disney (nice feature). I've gone online recently to "pretend book" a trip to see if the rates have changed and I noticed that the price of insurrance has gone up some since when I purchased in August. Not sure why.
Anyhow, $100 is worth it to me for peace of mind.

I usually do but did not on our last trip. I sure wish I had. I always bought for the assurance of not losing our money if we had to cancel, but I needed it last trip for the medical coverage. I wound up very very ill in the ER with unexpected heart issues that cost us a few thousand. If I had bought the insurance, it would have been covered.

we are getting it, because dh feels it's the best thing to do since we are going in October, and he philosphy is better safe than sorry

We have never gotten it before until this trip. We have alot of people going and for the first time, we are staying at a deluxe so we decided better safe than sorry.

I have never purchased trip insurance before and never needed it...that all changed with a trip I was planning last year. With about 1 week till, our plans changed and we couldn’t go. The Hotel was a full refund because it was a week out, and the airline gave me a credit, but it will still cost $100 per passenger re-booking fee when it's needed. So, long story short, $200 dollars compared to the $80 the insurance would have cost for 2 people.
So it's about preference...I still don't think insurance is needed for regular trips. Of all the times I've traveled, and only needing it once, it would overall be more expensive to add on insurance each time. The exception to this is cruises, and very short notice cancellations.
;)

No I wasted money on it, when I cancelled you get back I think it was $200.00 but not sure and lost the money i put down on insurance plu sit wa s a pain in the rear to fill out the form. I had to cancell cause my dad had gotten real sick Good luck, I eould call and maybe they will give you an extension

3 days ago I priced a 3 night stay for my inlaws who are driving to WDW....and they quoted me $133.00! That seemed like alot considering WDW's generous cancellation policy and considering there are no airline tickets to refund.

WE got it... i feel its worth the $$$$ hopfully we wont have to use it but for the amount the trip is costing us I dont want to risk loosing it all....

We always get it, haven't had to use it yet (knock on wood). I agree with an earlier poster - better safe than sorry. It cost us $133 for 4 for our upcoming 9-day trip in April.

I didn't because 1. we're flying southwest which will always (at least) give you a credit toward another flight; 2. disney has a relatively liberal cancellation policy; and 3. we have great health insurance that has a nationwide ppo network. If those three things weren't true, I probably would have picked it up, but as it is, the only contingency NOT covered is if one of us gets so sick mid-vacation that we have to leave. Not impossible, but hopefully unlikely.

We second that............you just never know when something will happen!

Yes, but with Disney's cancellation policy you will NOT lose it all-- the most you could lose on a package is $200.

The insurance is $66.95 per adult.
So here's an example:
you cancel 2 weeks prior due to a covered reason and have insurance-- you get a full refund minus $133.90
you cancel 2 weeks prior due to a covered reason and DON'T have insurance-- you get a full refund minus $100 cancellation fee
In that case you are losing more money because you bought insurance.

I can see it being useful if something happens on your trip and you have to come home early.
