Trick for getting 2 ADRs at the same time (splitting party)?

I have a party of 6 people, and a few reservations were not available for 6 so I thought I would try for split reservations at or near the same, but MDE is not letting me. For example, we want an ADR at Sci-Fi. Nothing for 6 people. I was able to book a reservation for 2 people, and then searched again for 2 people and found the same time. But when I clicked on the time, MDE told me that I already had a resrvation for that time, and did I want to keep or cancel. When I clicked keep, it wouldn't let me proceed to book the second 2-person reservation.

Is there a trick to getting this to work?

When you make the first reservation you have to remove yourself as the lead person. Then you can go in and make a second reservation and exclude yourself from the list of people, just make sure the lead is an adult. If you do split up your party there may be a chance they won't seat you all together though. You can also use two MDE accounts to make reservations at the same time, just don't list the same people.

Before you go the route of getting multiple reservations, try changing your existing 2 person reservation (you can do that from the page that summarizes all your reservations). You can click on change and try to put in your larger party number. I know that works for me all the time when I go down in number (when a party of 2 doesn't show up for an ADR to book, but 4 does, for example), so you may luck out with going up in number as well.

Okay thanks. My kids are teens/young adults, so if we ended up at three tables of two, we would be fine. In fact, some of us might prefer a little time away from others . . .

Thanks - I'll try changing the reservation, too.

Changing reservation worked for me for Cali Grill Brunch (which tends to be hard to get). Only table for 3 available (we are party of 5). I booked two ressies one with 3 and one with 2. Went right back and changed ressie for 3 to 5 with no problem. Then had to contact other adult (my DS who's in HI) to cancel the ressie for 2 because even though I made the ressie on my account, once I chose him as lead on ressie I could not cancel it.
