Everyone here on the DIS has been so incredibly supportive of me this past week, and it has really meant a lot to me. I hope that you don't mind giving me one more indulgence this week, as I would like to share with you a tribute to my mom.

My mom was the fourth of seven children in a very close-knit, Irish Catholic family. She was very close to her two sisters, and four brothers. Family has always been important to my mom, and that's something that she passed along to her children. My mom was very close to her own sisters, and I think seeing her relationship with her sisters is what makes me work so hard to have a good relationship with my sisters.

My mom has endured the deaths of both of her parents, and three of her brothers. My grandmother passed away very suddenly at the age of 57 of a cerebral hemmorage. One of my uncles passed away of cancer at the age of 37. My mom endured a lot of heartbreak and loss in her family, but somehow she came through it all stronger as a person, and in her faith.

My mom's faith was something that was very important to her. She was a church-going Catholic, and raised her six children strong in that Catholic faith. She found strength, understanding, and encouragement through her prayers, and remained faithful to the Catholic church.

Perhaps my mom's greatest accomplishment in life was her six children. Her love for us knows no end. She has always supported us, encouraged us, and got us through any difficulties we faced in life. She taught us to be respectful, helpful, loving, and caring human beings. Over the years, so many people have commented on what wonderful adults my brothers, sisters, and I have become, and that is entirely due to the way that my mom and dad raised us. She beamed with pride for us, and we all beamed with pride for her as well. We always knew that we had a great mom.

The other pride in my mom's life were here six grandchildren. She was so proud of how great they are doing in school, and what great kids they are. They are all just loving, caring, thoughtful, and sweet kids. My mom always made sure that she had special snacks in the house when they came to visit, and she loved giving the kids dollars every time she saw them--she always made sure she had a supply of them in her purse.

My mom was one of those people who everyone loved. Everyone always tells me what a sweetheart my mom is. My mom never spoke a bad word about anyone. She never drank. She never swore. One time, she spelled out a cuss word, and we were shocked. My mom just had a good heart, and her capacity to care and love was greater than any other person I've ever known.

My mom had one vice in life, and outside of her family, it was the one thing that made her happy. That vice was gambling. She loved going to Bingo--when I was growing up, she went to Bingo four or five nights a week. She had to give up Bingo in recent years, as her eyesight was declining and it became more difficult for her to follow the cards. She also loved going to a casino and playing the video poker and slot machines. She also enjoyed lottery scratch tickets.

My family suffered a great loss today when my mom passed away, but we know that she lives on in each of us. My family has already become closer in these past 10 days, and we will continue to lead our lives the way our mother raised us.

My mom is up in heaven with her mom, dad, and brothers, and I know she is looking down on us with pride. She is thowing strength down to us to help us get through this. And we are all looking up at her with pride, and love, and thanks for being the amazing mom that she is.
