Trial Run for Dogs in Resort Rooms

Wow, if I was a dog, I would actually think this stinks. Ride in a car for hours or be in a crate on a plane. Stay in an unfamiliar hotel room alone all day, then just go outside here and there. I'd rather stay home, but this is about the people right? They feel like they are doing something good? I don't know, I have a dog, and he'll definetly be staying home, and I will not be staying where the dogs are.

Or, if the people want to hang out outside with them all day? Will there be sections for dog hang outs or do they just hang out all over the property anywhere?
Who's job is clean up? The owners?

Just spoke to guest services regarding my stay at AoA at the end of the month. For any relocation we would have to either pay the difference or refunded if the hotel is less. There’s no “complimentary” relocation.

I’m actually fine with that. I’ve been wanting to stay at POFQ for some time. I would gladly pay if there were rooms available. The problem is, everything is booked unless I have an extra $1500 per night.

So, I'm going to throw this at the wall. I've stayed at portofino a ton when it was singular even and at royal pacific a few times. I'm going to refrain from comparing them to wdw deluxes so I don't get lynched...but I don't see the number of service animals at uni that I do at wdw and have never seen an animal in or around one of their hotels (maybe 15 2 night stays). Am I missing something?

I've seen dogs at Portofino. We've stayed there a few times. They were always small dogs, like dogs you can stick in a bag. I've never seen a service animal at Universal. Universal also has way less ECVs. And strollers. I think it just attracts a different demographic due to the nature of the rides

I am so glad my upcoming trip is not at one of these resorts because I would definitely be changing it. I love dogs, but I do not think they should be at Disneyworld, stuck in a hotel room. Next month, we were seriously considering buying into DVC. Now DH say no, we have to wait to see if dogs are allowed at those resorts in the future...and if they are...no DVC for us.

From what I understand you are not allowed to leave the dogs in the rooms there while you are not there. You have to take them to a kennel.

This. You cannot leave your pet unattended. They offer services you can select and pay for to care for your pet while you’re out. That’s opposite of what Disney is doing.

I was literally just thinking about this. If they are allowed to place crated dogs under the bus with the luggage, what happens when that dog relieves itself and the urine runs down the floor and onto everyone’s luggage?

I took that restriction to mean that they would have to be small enough to be in a kennel that you can carry on the bus. Those underneath spaces aren’t ventilated enough. It’d be like putting a dog in a trunk of a car. Plus, how is someone going to lug a huge kennel through the airport to MDE? That seems insane. I think the only ppl who will bring large dogs are those who choose to drive with them or service animals that don’t have those restrictions.

That is smart of your husband. They did this and made it a change super quick, you'd hate to buy something like that and then find out that they are making it resort wide at all DVC, or resorts. At least if you don't buy, you can choose to stay at one of the other resorts around.

Well, Disney did say there was doggie day care available, so you don’t HAVE to leave your pet in the room. But they are making it easier to leave the pet than to book the day care, probably because the day care won’t be able to handle the volume.

Me either. And during the summer, generally May-Sep, most airlines will not ship a pet due to the heat (tarmac is super hot and loading bags in cargo will be hot until the doors are shut and pilot turns on the engines)

I hope people keep repeating this. Yes, call and email but don’t stop at the guest services email. Bombard upper management. Make it known this is widely and wildly unpopular. Make it so that they and their executive assistants are unable to avoid the issue.

How about people with allergies. Sorry, but there is no cleaning all the pet dander from these rooms and with the current state of mousekeeping this has bad new written all over it.

I’m assuming they will have designated rooms and they will be sectioned off to one hallway away from other guests.
I don’t really agree with this though. They already have the pet day care where you can board your dog so I’m not sure why they are doing this. And what happens when the owners are at the parks all day? They just sit in the room?
Obviously working dogs are a different story but I’m assuming they have always been allowed

Question, totally out of curiosity - we keep speculating about club level. I know most of the deluxes have some rooms that have club level access that are not on the club floor. Could it be that some sort of accommodation like that will be made for people who want access to the club level amenities, but want to bring a pet as well? This is assuming that the half of Disney employees who are saying pet rooms are only in designated areas, and not run of the house, are correct (since run of the house would include club level as well). I wouldn't think that pets would be allowed in the club lounge anyway if they are not supposed to be in restaurants or public areas.

YC is planning to assign rooms to guests who bring their dogs and booked CL in the dog friendly area of the resort. The guests will have access to the lounge via their Magic Bands. Their dogs will not.

That sounds like they can walk all around the place and maybe only kept out of confined spaces like food court, pool, fitness center ............ so why the "pet walkways" ......... too much contradiction.

I don’t necessarily see it as a contradiction. One public area with furniture they may be in is the lobby. Not everyone can bypass the front desk, and if they decide they need to review your vaccination paperwork, pet guests may actually be required to go to the front desk. So they have to have this kind of wording so people are aware of the rules (whether enforced is another matter).

Ok, I haven't read the whole thread, but what about combining resort rooms with pets in them, then offer those rooms the incentive to not be cleaned for the extra gift card. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. I'm just in a laughing mood I guess.
