Do you think dogs should be allowed in guests' rooms?

Having booked directly through Disney, and with a check-in date at one of the four dog-friendly resorts in a couple of weeks, I still have not received notification from Disney of this change in policy. I found out about the change from this thread.

What about guests who are not active on social media and only find out when they see non-service dogs around the resort or hear barking that was never experienced in past stays?

Disney needs to get their act together.

I finally got my notification from Disney yesterday about the “upcoming changes” to my resort. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your travel agent. Disney is my travel agent since I booked directly through them. They didn’t even give the main Disney number to call. Tells me they are getting loads of calls and really don’t want to hear from those who have a problem with it. I am so disappointed and shocked quite honestly. This will be our first time experiencing Christmas at the parks and resorts (we’ve done Halloween twice) and we’ve been jumping out of our skin with excitement. I really don’t want to have to dose my kid with benedryl and albuterol throughout our vacation. It will be impossible to enjoy our vacation if that’s the case.

I didn’t insinuate that you were a bad person because of your opinion, however.

I tell you what. I recently quit smoking. Not a nice smell, & I never smoked indoors. But I bet some people’s vacations would be greatly enhanced by being able to unwind with an adult beverage & a cigarette in their room.

Now I know that you can’t equate smoking with a pet, but the inconvenience to others is the same. Smoke stinks. Wet dog (it rains a lot in FL) also stinks. Dander & smoke both can trigger an asthmatic episode. Both rooms would need a deep clean for anyone with allergies or sensitivity to be able to occupy them. Etc, etc, etc.

At what point does an individual’s right to something non-essential (I am not talking about service dogs here) trump the right of the majority?

I cannot understand this sense of I want what I want & the rest if you be damned.
But it seems like you're saying "I want what I want" doesn't it? That's what I'm hearing. There's not just one side to this and you seem to be making it so by that statement.

If you are comparing people who want their pet on vacations with those who want to avoid having allergies or a phobia negatively impact their vacation, then you were right. There is no point to this discussion.

For the last time. The inclusion of the resorts listed severely limits resort choice for families of 5 on a budget. I believe someone else on this thread implied this new policy was for a SPECIFIC small target group. & the rest of us are chicken littles - get over it because we will barely notice the difference. Well familied of 5 on a budget are also a SPECIFIC small target group.

Even if they designate certain rooms at certain resorts, do you really believe that Disney will leave rooms sitting there b/c they are pet-friendly rooms?!? Even I’ve been put in a smelly smoking room at a hotel in the past when I specifically requested non.

Again. I am concerned where this is going. If it’s expanded to DVC that is not simply between Disney & the pet owner. My pocketbook will be directly impacted.
If it's expanded to DVC we are gone. DH and I had a long discussion and decided this is fine as long as they keep it limited to 4 resorts so people can just avoid those. But with DVC, owners pay dues to those resorts to cover upkeep and damage, etc. I refuse to pay dues to a resort that is allowing pets. When things get damaged, smelly etc, that's affecting me when dues go up. When we bought and signed our contracts there was no pets allowed. I'm hoping that they would not be able to do this- that it isn't coincidence that they chose yacht club that just happens to be the only deluxe that doesn't have DVC.

Just did this. Everyone here who's against this (86% of us according to the poll above) should too. Let's flood that blog.

I must be missing something because while I could see the comments I couldn't find a place to leave a comment. Where did you find it?

I recently lost my precious girl. However, if Disney had had this policy when I had her, I might have upgraded to POR while I have always stayed at POP. I thought and hoped that something like this was in the works when I saw Disney moving away from carpeted rooms.
I'm so sorry for your loss. They truly are part of the family and bring so much joy to our lives.

I was told yesterday that 30 minutes from the first call we make to the front desk to report, Management "can" go into a room and remove a barking dog. (It will then be taken over to the Best Friends Kennel and the family will be notified.) So...that's the official protocol. In reality, they are hoping not to have to do that very often. They are counting on us to simply put up with the barking. They are hoping that we will be too busy or too nice to make the call and complain. That way, one year from now they can say there were very few complaints and that the "trial" was successful. And then it will be expanded.

It doesn't work on phones. You have to be on a desktop/laptop, and you have to be logged in.

You are so right on this. Dosing with Benedryl and Albuterol would ruin a trip. My daughter suffers from allergies and Benedryl turns her into a zombie. I hate giving it to her but sometimes I must.

I'm on my phone and just did it. Just have to login in to your Disney account
