Trial Run for Dogs in Resort Rooms

This 30 minute rule is about as enforceable as the 7 hour rule. There will be people that hear a dog bark and it may drive them nuts, but it's doubtful that anyone will complain about it immediately. When somebody does finally call, a cm will probably have to come and investigate where the noise is coming from, etc....Then they make a phone call or text someone. They're at a show, dinner, etc...Realistically, the dogs could be barking for a couple of hours or more before anyone returns to the room.

I really think the rule should be, dogs should not be left alone in the rooms. Period.

Agreed. I mean if the dog is alone mid afternoon and barking and they allow 30 minutes to get your dog under control they likely won't even call for 30 minutes. If the owner is in the parks or at a another resort even if they came right back it would likely be at least an hour potentially up to 2 hours before they arrive back to their room to do anything.

And yes even if 7 hours was enforceable it's way too long to leave a dog alone in a hotel room.

This will be easy to enforce if Disney wants to, No magic band swipes to get in the room for 7 hours. They can track this easily my RFID at work has history for six months of doors opening and closing. A nice Disney fine added to Pluto's stay, how magical

That’s awful. I know how debilitating a dog phobia can be. People who are frightened of spiders might understand. Freezing when you see a dog; heart beats faster; starting to sweat; can’t continue with what you were doing until ‘threat’ is gone. Then the next so many minutes trying to calm back down again. Finally feeling edgy as you continue your day. I feel for your foster child. I’m not as bad with the odd service dog as they are on those short harnesses and I know they are intensively trained. Also I understand how needed they are.

I really hope you have a great holiday with your foster children though. Thank you for all you do for them!

I don't know if people understand how debilitating it can be to be afraid of dogs. When I was talking to a cast member theone I delt with didn't fully care or get it you could tell by his voice and comments. My oldest daughter was attacked and bit on her face when she was younger and I tired for years to help her "get over it" but I've learned just how real her fear is and it's not something you just get over to see how she shakes and to see her face makes me so sad and hurt.
I very much understand now how awful this or any fear can be.
I am hoping Disney will understand this too.

Isn’t the “sense of I want what I want” the EXACT same attitude being exhibited by those opposing this change??? Excluding those who are angry that there was little notice & those with true serious allergies, most ppl appear to oppose this b/c they don’t prefer it. Most doomsday predictions of how this will destroy all of WDW, to me, seem to be mostly WDW’s problem. If a dog ruins a room, that’s between WDW & the guest that allowed this. Not my problem. WDW decided on a policy change for whatever reason they thought it would be beneficial to them...not b/c dog owners have demanded that WDW accommodate them. It’s only 4 resorts of all of the resorts WDW offers, but most ppl seem to find it impossible to cope with this compromise. To me THAT screams of “I want what I want” & all of WDW property should accommodate ME & what I prefer.

If you are comparing people who want their pet on vacations with those who want to avoid having allergies or a phobia negatively impact their vacation, then you were right. There is no point to this discussion.

Even if they designate certain rooms at certain resorts, do you really believe that Disney will leave rooms sitting there b/c they are pet-friendly rooms?!? Even I’ve been put in a smelly smoking room at a hotel in the past when I specifically requested non.

Again. I am concerned where this is going. If it’s expanded to DVC that is not simply between Disney & the pet owner. My pocketbook will be directly impacted.

This does not stop service animals from being walked on the BoardWalk, or anywhere else for that matter.

I am so sorry that happened to your daughter. I understand how real that fear is. My son is afraid too. There is no way he could ride an elevator with a dog in it. we don't stay at any of the resorts planned for dogs, but I am afraid we will see them on the boardwalk when we stay there.
And just where will these dogs be on Magical Express?

Sometimes. I've seen a family get physically removed from Beach Club for refusing to not smoke in their balcony.

OK, so they enforce them part of the time!!

I've seen countless reckless, under aged drivers of carts at FW, overloaded, and people standing on carts, CM's seeing them, plus the 'local' police - nothing said!

Also, 'many' smokers where they are not supposed to be - both in the parks and resorts - nothing said!

The list could go on, but you get the point!

People , There are 875 posts here and 539 votes against this. I love the Dis but the place to voice our concerns is the Disney parks Blog 57 comments 8 replies from management and 27 likes. I would say that Disney must at least read that. Just saying That is a better place to air our concerns

So is the software that gets tracked just in the door? Or do you need to have a magicband on as well?

I'm just thinking about my own family who leave their magicbands lying around the hotel room while they eat, swim, etc.... If anyone tracks them, they'll think they never leave the hotel room on some days.

This is my biggest beef here. We are a family of five who deals with both allergies and dog phobias and the resorts listed are all best options for families of 5 or 6 on a budget. CBR/POR are the only mod level resorts with rooms for families of 5. They are more limited at CBR already with construction and now POR has dogs. AoA and FW Cabins are the next price level up to accommodate larger families and now they have dogs. And YC/BC is typically one of the more affordable deluxe options for families of 5 as well and they now allow dogs.

And for all that they are supposedly limiting the rooms for dogs to part of the resort, the dog walking maps seem to indicate they are spread out all over the resort so it doesn't look like they will be easy to avoid.

there are rooms at other resorts during our stay, but none with the same discounted rate. Any chance they'll move us without charging us the additional amount? My husband and son both highly allergic...

Yes. I was told yesterday that they will move you and even upgrade you if you make that request. (You will probably have to be willing to spend time going "up the chain" until you get to some one who will make it happen though.) Take the phone number for Guest Services with you and don't be afraid to call them.

People should fight this if they don't prefer it. Lots of us have legitimate concerns. But in the end, it doesn't matter what anyone's reasons are. Anyone who feels strongly about something should speak up.

A year long trial at four resorts? This is not a compromise. This is a slippery slope. I think it would be naive to think it won't be implemented at all the resorts when this "trial" is over. Right now some are saying, so don't book those resorts. Next year those same people might be saying, so don't stay at Disney.

I really think this is a very bad idea. There are SO many potential problems. Allergies, dogs left all day, fouling, dog behaviour, fleas, dog phobic people, etc.

There is no scanning of your band when you leave the room, so there is no starting point for the 7 hour timer. I covered this earlier in this now really long thread.

Really weird decision by Disney!
Will there be breed restrictions? Big difference between someone showing up with 2 big dogs vs 2 little ones.
I hope this is short lived.

I truly don't understand the attitude of Disney not notifying people who have reservations sooner. I think the time when Disney has cared about customer service has long past and it makes me sad and angry. As a family who has been going to Disney for a very long time I know the customer service has been eroding over the years and it seems that they really don't care because they know people will still continue to stay at the resorts no matter what they do.That being said I do understand that they want to provide a place for people who want to bring their dogs, so build a pet friendly resort. They certainly have the property and the money to do so!
