I was thinking of taking a tri-pod into the park to try and get some really good pictures of the fireworks.

Does anyone know if they let you take tri-pods into the parks? Has anyone does this?

1- Yes.

2- Yes.

How do you deal with a tripod in the park? Do you carry it around with you on rides or do you store it in a locker and just use it when necessary?

Locker and/or backpack.

I have small children, so I always end up going back to our resort for naps, pick up my tripod then and carry it in the park for the evening. Since I have the kids, I also have the stroller, which allows me a convenient place to put my tripod.

However, if I didn't have all that, it would be in a locker. :)

This is on my mind as well. I've upgraded my gear and between figuring out which lenses I want to bring, along with tripod issues, I am a bit :scared1:

But I see people with pods all the time, various styles. I wouldn't lug one all day but have a set time I plan on using it, store it in a locker (or go back to resort for it) until you want to set up.

Off topic... I brought a Mono Pod last trip and it was destroyed when we got our luggage to our room. I don't know if if the airport damaged it or Magical express. Everything else in our bags was fine. I just bought a new HD digital cam corder and was really excited to retape some parade and fireworks. I still recordered those things, but I am not a very steady person...

I am going to try again next sept. I might even ship it ahead of us with a few other things through UPS or FedEx.

I use a gorilla pod that I attach to our stroller put in a locked position. It works well but you can't get quiet as high as some tripods can.

Mine goes up to 6' but it doesn't fold down very small. It goes right in the bottom of the stroller. Couple more years and I'll need a locker.

I hauled a tripod on our January trip - a velbon sherpa. Its not super light, but I found it easy to carry and it is very sturdy. I just took it with me when I knew I would need it (Wishes in particular). As Chikabowa mentioned, we always take a afternoon break, so I just brought it with me in the evening. It was great having it for fireworks with the remote shutter (wired) as I could actually watch and enjoy the show while shooting!

And just a reminder, its not just for fireworks - you can do some other shots as well!

I also used it at Animal Kingdom Lodge for pictures of animals from our balcony - now that was a relaxing session :drinking1

The large lockers will hold a pretty good sized tripod. I have a large tripod that I carry with us and it will spend most of the day in a locker if we didn't park close (like at Epcot or DHS - MK is too far to go back, of course) or we aren't taking an afternoon break. You basically spend $7 because you get $5 back from the $12 cost when you return your key. Well worth it. I go up and take it out at dusk, return the key, and then carry the tripod on my backpack when I'm not using it the rest of the night.

You may want to look at the Cullmann Magic 2. It folds flat (13 1/4" x 5"), extends to 55" and weighs about 2 1/2 lbs. It also converts to a monopod. Because it lays flat, it works well in my luggage. While not an everyday tripod, it works great for travel.

PS My measurements differ slightly from the blurb, but mine are real life.

When I do take a tripod in the parks I just strap it to my camera bags. Even bags without specific tripod straps can be configured to carry a tripod with a bit of imagination.
