My ds has recently been diagnosed with a tree nut allergy, and now I have a few questions:

1. Is there a way to go back & add this info to our ADR's? I am guessing it will be much easier to find safe foods if the allergy is known up front.

2. We have ADRs at the following restaurants -- are any particularly good/not good about dealing with food allergies?

*BOG
*Sci-Fine Dine In Theater
*The Plaza
*Coral Reef

3. It is also my dd's birthday while we are there & I was planning to order a birthday cake for her. Are there any tree-nut free cake options?

Thanks in advance!

Call, have them note it on all of your ADR's. Have it noted on your room reservation as well.
My family has had excellent experiences at the restaurants you wrote. My daughter has a tree nut allergy as well. Disney does such a wonderful job with helping families with food allergies and sensitivities.

You can add it when you make your ADRs online. There is a section to click on for allergies and tree nuts is an option.

My son has a tree nut allergy, too. The restaurants are great about dealing with it. The only frustration we had was the bakery goods on buffets and ones served in gift shops etc. Those are apparantly manufactured off site and so the chefs won't recommend them because they can't guarantee the preparation. My son is ok with trace amounts so cross contamination wasn't "too" big of a worry; but who wants to find out the allergy has escalated at Disney! :scared: So, he skipped those items and he could still have Mickey bars! Places like Big Top Souvenirs have giant notebooks with an ingredient list for each item; so you can check those out if you are concerned about anything. (Fortunately we checked before ordering the giant Mickey head chocolate chip cookie. The CM didn't think it had nuts, but it did have crushed almonds.) They do have allergy safe cookies at TS restaurants and he liked them ok. He was also able to order a cupcake at BOG without a warning from the chef, so maybe those are made on site? :confused3 As far as Sci Fi Dine in, he ordered the sundae with no nuts and it was fine. They were also great about talking with us about the allergy. Good luck and I know you will have fun. Disney is fantastic about allergies. Just keep your epi pen (I assume he has one) handy, but I don't think you'll have a problem. And don't hesitate to ask questions or clarify anything with your server that you aren't sure about.

My son also has tree but and peanut allegy. Disney is great about allergies. We have ate at all those resturants except the plaza. I know I tried to get him ice cream at the ice cream shop next to the plaza and he couldn't have anything. It has been about a year and a half since we were at coral reef but I feel like there wasn't much there for him to eat. He wanted fish but was told it wasn't safe for him to eat it. What a disappointment! He ended up sharing a steak meal with me just to be able to eat something but he wasn't happy!

My son has dairy, egg, peanut, tree nut and sesame allergies and has eaten like a king at Disney. At the Plaza, he had a Mickeylodeon sundae with Enjoy Life cookies. (rice dream ice cream) Haven't been to the others yet with him. Enjoy life cookies are in many places. (they are top 8 free).

How old is your son?

Last trip we ate at BOG (lunch and dinner) the Plaza and Sci Fi. Myself and my ds both have allergies not nut but but multiple each. BOG and the Plaza were both amazing. I couldn't have been happier about how they handled it. Sci Fi was another story, the "chef" couldn't find the book with what was in each food item and something was sent out of the kitchen with one of our cannot have list, at least it was obvious and visual and nobody got sick. That's one place we're never going back to!!!!

I have a tree nut allergy, though trace amounts don't bother me...yet. Every chef that I have talked to has been wonderful. The chef at Boma gave me a complete walk-thru of the buffet pointing out what I could and could not have. The same thing occurred at 1900 Park Faire. The one thing I found bothersome is that sometimes the chef would come out and talk to me and wanted to know what I was going to order before I really had a chance to look at the menu. I respect that they are busy so I would try to order quickly, but it was sometimes a pain.

I don't think you'll have a problem with any of those restaurants with a tree nut allergy. I have anaphylactic reactions to tree nuts, and i've never had a reaction/issue at WDW. If you can't get that info added to your ADR, don't be afraid to tell your server about the allergy! Typically the chef will come to your table, talk to you about what menu options are okay, etc. Disney is very accommodating when it comes to food allergies!

You could call, but it's not necessary for one common allergen. They are very used to dealing with guests with tree nut allergies as well as many others. Mention it when you check in for your ADR and make sure that the server is aware. They have allergen menus now in many locations but you can also speak to a chef if necessary. Like pp mentioned baked goods may end up being an issue just about anywhere because of the risk of cross-contamination. Fruit, ice cream, sorbets and sometimes smoothies as well as treats like Enjoy Life cookies are generally offered instead.
