Treatment for Acne That Doesn't Break the Bank?

like another poster mentioned I use tea tree oil, full strength on the areas. Keeps the cystic acne at bay and clears up any that do form. It's very drying on your skin so I try to use it sparingly. Smells horrible (like antiseptic) but you get used to it and the smell goes away pretty quick.

I don't think it's expensive though. Here's where I bought some 2yrs ago and I still have a bunch of the bottles. http://www.puritan.com/tea-tree-oil...-100-percent-pure-australian-008871?NewPage=1

Wow...that is much cheaper than the local store I get mine from.

My DD12 has had good results from the Burt's Bees products (cleanser, lotion, and spot treatment) - as good as/better than the products that the derm. prescribed over the years.

products are a little high priced, but they are on sale this week at Target with a $5 GC back when you buy 2. We are gonna stock up and I am going to start using the products.

you can always go tot he BB's site and check out the reviews!:)

This sounds crazy but it worked for me. I never had acne until I was an adult. Take the yolk of an egg and rub it on your face. Let it dry and then wash it off. Thats it! Not at all harmful and chemical free and as close to free cost wise as you can get. I know it sounds weird but not only did my acne go away, but the rest of my face became softer. Hope that helps. :goodvibes

There was once a column that Ann Landers ran years ago in which a reader related a story about using egg yolk to lessen the symptoms of rosiolla. (SP?) She claimed it worked when nothing else would.

Try to get eggs straight from the farm. Free range. The chickens pick the bugs and that's what makes the yolks so rich--loaded with protein.

I've used the egg yolk (off and on) just for the way it makes my skin feel. Other than that, I'd recommend Noxema facial cleanser.

You could always try the MAXIMUM STRENGTH Proactiv. It works really well...much different than the original formula. Same price too.

I highly reccomend the Philosophy line of skincare. Get the Purity cleanser and the micro delivery scrub. These are not super cheap but not terrible. I get mine from QVC. It's a better buy frm them. Good Luck

If a dermatologist is too expensive (not covered by insurance?) your PCP can prescribe most of the most common acne meds. Some of the topical antibiotics are generic and fairly inexpensive...

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I am going to try the egg yolk (can't hurt, right?) and call my PCP next week to see if he can prescribe me anything and if not, to recommend a dermatologist. I've been putting up with this for years thinking that eventually I'd "grow out of it" but no such luck! Even though it's just in the chin area (mostly) it's really bad now and driving me crazy!!
