Travelling With An Illness - Insurance Q's?

Without going into detail, Im travelling with Hubs to WDW later on this year but I will have been recieving medical treatment for an illness for around 8 months (by the time we travel). Whilst my Doc has said by then i should be fine to travel but will re-assess nearer the time and Ive managed to get a good insurance cover, Can anyone make any suggestions as to other precautions I should take?

Has anyone ever been taken ill whilst on holiday? Im staying on site so i wont be doing to much travelling everyday and I can easilly take breaks etc. Im just concerned as to what would happen if Im taken ill as Ive never been in hospital over seas and i dont understand how the insurance thing works either. Do i pay for treatment and then claim it back?

Great news to hear that an insurance company will cover you whilst you are still recieveing tretament

As for needing to get medical help abroad I am sure if it is going to cost more than a few hundred dollars you need to contact your insurance company and get prior approval that they will cover the costs.

my Dad took a mini stroke whilst in the USA a couple of years ago and the medical service was second to none, however the bill was huge so make sure you are well insured

If it is just a visit to a doctor and a script than you willbe expected to pay, maybe on credit card and claim when you return, if it is more than this or suspect you can't afford the treatment then contact the Insurer or their medical aid helpline and theu will arange to settle the bill direct.

We were at OKW over Christmas this year and at 4am on Christmas morning my mother could not breathe so I called an ambulance and it arrived within minutes and took her to the hospital in Celebration. They were marvellous but had we not had such wonderful insurance cover we would have had to pay literally thousands on a credit card and claim it back. My parents were both insured through Saga and they both stated that they suffer from Asthma so it was clearly stated on their policy.

I made a call to them and literally they sorted out everything and we did not have to pay. they knew the hospital staff at celebration and all we had to do was sign a form.

When a person is ill the last thing you want to do is worry about paying the bill and for this reason I cannot recommend Saga highly enough.

My mother had to have nebulisers and strong steriods but she was released six hours later. It was a severe asthma attack with bronchial pneumonia, but she was like a new woman 24 hours later.

Just make sure that your policy covers everything as it can be pricey if you became ill.

Just a word of caution.
Make sure you have confirmation that the insurance company will cover you for any illness/treatment arising from the illlness you are being treated for.
many will cover you for other treatments, but not anything to do with what they call a pre existing condition
