I am trying to plan a trip, staying at Boardwalk (the Villas) without renting a car. How does one get around between the Magic Kingdom and other attractions. I see references to the Monorail, ferries and launches and walking, but I'm not clear if you can use these all together or does it get too complicated? Is there one method to get to all areas of Walt Disney World? I'm a novice (first trip--tho' I'm a pro at Disneyland).

We just went in November and we walked to Epcot and MGM or we would take the ferry from the Boardwalk. The ferry is my favorite. The walk to MGM is not bad at all. It is quite pleasant. The walk to Epcot is short. We usually would take the monorail from Epcot to TC then to MK. Sorry, we drove to AK, but I have taken the bus. Not my favorite! The Boardwalk is my favorite resort. FYI, There is an entrance off the boardwalk by the gym and pool that takes you directly to the elevators on the Villas side. It cuts out having to go through the lobby every time. I'm already planning another trip in December!! Have a great trip!:earsgirl: :jester:

To Magic Kingdom: bus (We stayed at the BWI in December for the first time and having stayed at the Grand Floridian or Polynesian all of my life, I was a little worried about the bus. I shouoldn't have been. We never waited more than 5 minutes for a bus either at the resort or the park.)

To Epcot: walkway (very short and you enter through World Showcase) or boat

To MGM: walkway (probably a little under a mile, but a very pleasant walk) or boat

To Animal Kingdom: bus (once again, very short waits at both stops)

To Downtown Disney: bus (direct service all day)

As for the boats and buses, if the BoardWalk isn't the first stop, get off at any of the other resorts (Swan, Dolphin, Beach and Yacht Club) and walk. It's a very short distance from any of the above mentioned resorts.

You can also take taxis to any location in WDW. We didn't have to use taxis nearly as much at the BWI as at the GF. And even when we did, it was personal preference, not a long wait at the bus stop. Have a wonderful trip!

All true what is said above, also wanted to add that some times we got off the bus at S/D and walked back to BWI as it took less time. We also used a cab to go from BWI to GF. And when we went there was not direct service to DTD (value season), we actually had to go to CSR first and that took forever to get through all those bus stops  . Otherwise we had pretty good luck with transport. from the BWI.

This past trip in Dec we were at the MK and wanted to go to MGM....we took the monorail to TTC then took a bus direct to MGM....much quicker then our usual route of going back to BWV then walking to MGM....

Learn something new all the time..
