This is a question that I'm hoping someone out there may be able to answer for me.

I was wondering if anybody knows if you can use Travellers Cheques within Disneyland & DCA & Knotts.

We are heading to California in September from Down Under & are not planning on taking a great deal of cash with us, as we hope to be able to use travellers cheques for most of the time. In order for us to work out how much to take in cash & how much to take in travellers cheques, we need to know if travellers cheques are accepted for purchases within the Disney parks etc.

I hope someone out there has some answers to this.:)

Yes...travelers cheques are treated just like cash.:)

I don't think you will have trouble at all. You will receive cash back if you have any change from your purchases.

As previously stated, Travellers Checks are accepted.. you might also consider using the ATM machines - they are widely used here (machines where you can withdraw money using debit cards).

Aloha,
I always use Traveler's Checks because I can get them free at our Credit Union. If I use the ATM I get charged. Free is better.
But one time I used them at Disney (can't remember if it was Disneyland or WDW) I cashed one at the bank (Sun??) and Disney charged me $2 per check cashed! Never had that happen before. So from them on I just used them for payment and did not try to cash anymore at their bank.

Sun Bank charges to cash checks. We just use them for purchases and there are no problems.

Thank you all. It is good to hear that travellers cheques are accepted in the parks over there as opposed to carrying lots of cash around.

Mary Jo, the only ATM I can use is the Bank of America, any others I will be charged. We are still deciding what we will do. We are definately taking travellers cheques & a certain amount of cash & our Master Card, but not sure about putting money into the account here so I can access it from the ATM's over there.

Thank you all for replying, you have all been very helpful.

These boards are a godsend for those of us abroad!

I was so happy I brought half of my money in travellers checks. I lost a book of $20's somewhere in the park. I called the 800 number for Amex and they had replacement checks delivered to the Candy Cane where we were staying the next day. It was such a good feeling to know that even though I lost the checks, I was still taken care of, and would have money. It was no hassle having replacement checks delivered and I want to commend AmEx for the excellent service they gave me.

Travelers checks are the SAFEST way to take money when you are traveling, ESPECIALLY since you are coming from out of the country. Yes, carry some cash, but take the bulk in travelers checks. Have a safe trip!

Thanks Bobbi.

We are sitting patiently watching the Aussie Dollar rally against the US Dollar. It was doing real well, but the last couple of days it has taken a bit of dive.

We sure hope to have a safe trip & an enjoyable one too.

I appreciate the advice from everyone. It is so hard to know just what to do at times, especially when you need to have a certain amount or ready cash for tipping.

Last time we travlled was 15 years ago & took both travellers cheques & a small amount of cash. But the majority was travellers cheques.
