I know this has been discussed before, but I am still a little confused what happens with my wedding gown on the airplane. Anyone who did not ship your dress to Disney, what did the airline do with your dress when you were coming down/going home. Can you have it as your carry on and not check it, or does it have to be checked? Thanks! :) Oh, and my gown is super heavy and poofy.

I am coming from the UK so have a 9 hour flight with my dress to think about!!
I intend to purchase one of the boxes (available on the internet) which are carry on baggage dimensions. When I go to pick up my dress, I will have the dress boutique pack it into this box for me and I will then not take it out again until we arrive in our hotel room!!! I will carry my dress onto the plane and not let it out of my sight!!
Having said all this, my dress is not too heavy or poofy, so it shouldn't be a problem. Perhaps it may be wise to ask your boutique what size box they feel your dress will be packed in, and check the size allowed for carry-on baggage with your airline.
Good luck!!

Hi!!!

I recently called JetBlue and was told that they are happy I am getting married but they can't help with accomodations with my dress since they don't have closets on their airplanes, they suggested I check it in which is NOT happening...

My bridal store then suggested for me to go to any UPS Store and purchase a LUGGAGE BOX, I could carry that on the plane and they will place the dress in the box for me.

That might be your safest and easiest way to take the dress...

I recently traveled on Jet blue, when i called they said they couldn't accomodate me (mine was pretty good size too) I brought it with me and after everyone put their bags up I put my dress up. Depending on how packed the flight is and how much room....Good Luck

Mine is a good size as well..but we tried it and it fits in my carry-on...so it will be packed, on wheels and with me...:thumbsup2

Check, some airlines might allow you to buy a seat for your dress if you feel it is too big to put in a carry on.

It was suggested by my bridal shop to stuff the bodice of the dress with a clean sheet to keep it's shape and roll up the dress from the bottom to place it in a carryon for the plane ride. I was another JB traveller who was told they can't guarantee a place for my dress.
Once I got to my room I used the sheet to cover the dress as it hung in the closet area so DH wouldn't see it! (also to keep it clean!)

I carried the dress for our Vow Renewal on our JetBlue flight (it was a cocktail-length dress not a full bridal gown). Our plane had no closet so we were planning to lay it on top of DH's carry-on suitcase in the overhead bin. Before we left home I had the dress steamed and asked them to put a cardboard bodice form in it so the bust would hold it's shape. As it turned out the bins in our plane weren't very high (it was a smaller aircraft) so there was no room to lay it across the suitcase:scared1:. What we did was fold it in half once and put it in next to DH's suitcase. It worked out fine and the dress didn't wrinkle up like I feared. I had two drycleaning bags over it then the whole thing was in a garment bag.

I travelled with my wedding dress in a carry-on hanging bag. When I got on the plane I very nicely explained to one of the flight attendants in First Class that the bag was my wedding gown & asked if they could hang it. They were kind enough to hang it where they hang men's coats behind the last row of First Class, even though I was sitting in coach. Of course you'd be at the mercy of the flight attendants, but it can be done. I should also note that my dress was (obviously) small enough to fit into a standard slim suit bag. This would not have worked with a princess-style dress or one with a long train.

I had a pretty large dress, I just had it in the garment bag that it comes in and folded it in half to go in the overhead bin. The flight attendants told me to close the bin like it was full once I put the dress up so nothing would get put on top of it. They were also kind enough to let me pre-board when I told them I had to get my wedding dress in the overhead bin.

I managed to cram my dress into my carryon. I was getting it steamed anyway so I wasn't worried about some wrinkling. I wrapped it with a white sheet and packed it the night before we left and as soon as I got to the hotel I hung it up.

It was much easier carrying it through the airport this way and I didn't have to worry about other people putting their luggage on top of it.
