traveling with multiples!!

for the past 3 years, we've gone to wdw in early may and oct. /nov. the crowds in oct/nov. are less than in the spring, but it shouldn't be bad assuming you'll be there AFTER all of the spring breaks are over (we normally go the first week in may, but this year we'll be there april 27th). we notice heavier crowds on the weekends (true for any time of year, though) in the spring, so we really try to maximize our weekdays. we've been there for the start of the yearly celebrations (happiest celebration), too, and that has made things crazier in the spring, too.

on our first trip (a few weeks after the kids turned 2), my dh got an AP to use the AP discount on the resorts as we had our 5, my parents, and my in-laws, and we all had diff. rooms. this discount alone paid for the AP. we thought that we'd go 2 times during that year while the kids were under 3 and FREE. well, we ended up going 3 times (mid-nov, may, oct/nov). we had SO MUCH FUN on those trips, that about 3-4 mths. after the kids turned 3, i couldn't stand the thought of not enjoying that magic some more while the kids still found everything so REAL and MAGICAL as toddlers (even if we DID have to pay for them!!:goodvibes ) , so on a bit of a whim (a very expensive one), we bought APs for all 5 of us and went in may, this past nov, and we'll be going 1 more time this coming april/may on these same APs.

already at 4, my kids are figuring out on their own who/what is real and pretend, who is just "dressed up in a costume", and what is possible and what isn't realistic in regards to all things disney. i do not regret for one second our decision to spend the $$ on these trips and not other things (well, ok, depending on how my 3 are behaving on some days, perhaps i have moments of internal struggle:eek: )...we have no babysitter, we do not send them to preschool, we don't have lots of new stuff for the house, etc., and the majority of these decisions are based on the fact that we want to spend our money on vacations together.

dh and i traveled a lot before the kids, and we dream of taking them to the places that we loved to visit together or the places we have yet to travel to together:national parks out west, to australia, to the scottish highlands, to the east coast.
realistically, though, most of those places would be VERY difficult to travel to with 3 little ones, not to mention very expensive. WDW allows ALL 5 of us to be happy at the same time, doing the same things together, for a very "reasonable" price (given the quality and quantity of the entertainment and service), almost all day long ...and with three toddlers that is REALLY saying something!!!

so to answer your question , for us, yes, absolutely, the APs were worth it...it is cheaper to get an AP than buy indiv. tickets for 3 8-9 day trips in one year (every 6 mths). in addition to that, we have saved hundreds of dollars on resort costs by getting an AP discount on the rooms that we have stayed at on-property for both us and others travelling with us.

beyond cost, the AP has been worth it for me, as a sometimes overwhelmed SAHM, to have an incredible vacation always "in the works" and on the horizon, kwim?

we really noticed a difference in the kids' attitudes about WDW this last trip when they just turned 4...they were more interested in rides and going on to the next thing, as opposed to every other previous trip when they have just truly enjoyed being in the moment and enjoying the infinite little details of the parks and resorts. we really felt like something had changed, and a bit of that little kid wonder is gone:sad1: we assume that we'll start exploring some of the other amusement parks closer to us over the next few years and visit WDW again in a few years.

take care,

Thank you! We just love it in Disney this will be there 2nd trip, and they are still in that WOW, look. When ever they see the castle they start to yell Mickey's House!!! LOL We are looking to go again in Dec/Jan we like you think it will be nice to go as much as possible while they are still free! LOL. I think we may look into getting the AP. When we went in Oct with the babies we stayed off Disney grounds, so we are going to stay on grounds this time. It is nice the drive is not all bad for us to get there so we save money on that! Can't wait!!! :beach:

Hope everyone has a great weekend...

Not sure what to do..

DH wants to go to ST. THomas this summer we honeymooned there and went back for our five year anniversary too. Our friend who works at the resort we go to wants us to go. We spent the day there when were there on our DCL last year. (IN OCT.)

The kids really want to go to Cape Cod to the beach we have done it every year since they were six months old. We actually missed one year when we were having our pool put in. The house we rent is huge. We really do not need the big house but my parents usually come. This year they are not coming. So we would have it to our selves.
The cost is about half of ST. Thomas..

DH and I love the Caribbean and want to spend a week on the beach. But are worried the kids will be upset and miss the Cape.

I know this sounds stupid. But we are soo torn on what trip to book.

Any advice????

Kritter: Don't worry too much about your kids being disappointed. Once they get to St. Thomas they will love it too. It will be a new experience and there can be lots of new things for them to learn about. If that is where you and your dh would prefer to go this time I'm sure you will all have a great time with a different location for a wonderful vacation. Maybe you could get some books on St. Thomas and have your girls help you pick a couple of things out that they would really like to do when you are there. You are very lucky to be able to take your girls so many places and build so many memories and bonds!:grouphug:

How about Captain Jack Sparrow? Or Prince Charming? Or....Peter Pan, Captain Hook, a dalmation, Pooh or Tigger? Or Mickey Mouse himself!

Now I am wondering if we should look into a Beaches Resort so the kdis have more things to do..

Any thoughts. Anyone every been to the Caribean with the kids for a week???

If so where..

Thanks Karla, I hope some day the kdis remember all of these family trips we have taken together...Kristin

Kristin. Some of the all-inclusive resorts are wonderful choices for families. We haven't taken our kids but we have been to one and are going to another one (with the whole family) in less than 3 months. We have seen many families having a great time at them. The one we are going to in Mexico in just a few short weeks has a wonderful kids waterpark and kids program. It is voted by tripadvisor as one of the top 10 resorts for families with children. There are many great resorts to choose from out there. I honestly think 1/2 the fun of vacation is researching and choosing the ship or resort and location we are going to. Rest assured, your girls will probably love almost any place you choose...especially if there is a beautiful beach to play on with their wonderful parents.

so when do you leave?:goodvibes

my girls have princess dresses, which they love. my mom has made my son a big cape so he can be a prince with something "swishy" like the girls' dresses, but he doesn't wear it often.
my son has been robin hood (green shirt with collar, brown belt, black pants, bow and suction cup arrow set from $ store, and brown hat/shoe covers that i made).

this past halloween, my girls were wendy (my mom sewed the dress) and tinkerbell (new disney store outfit from ebay for $12), and my son was peter pan. he had a green shirt, darker green pants (pajama pants), brown belt, dollar store plastic dagger, and a peter pan hat from our last trip to disney world. it was really cute to see them in coordinating dress up clothes.

at WDW, my kids had a great time picking out accessories at tinkerbell's treasures...ds got the hat and the girls each got a little tinkerbell trinket.

Has anyone esle ordered the maps that you can have sent to you off of the WDW website they are really cool..Got mine the other day...

kritter,

what is special about the maps? we've taken this trip a bunch of times already, and i'm always looking for NEW planning stuff to collect for the kids!

thanks!

Wow! How cool is this. There appears to be a fair amount of triplet parents on the DIS boards. :dance3:

My sentiments exactly!!! Hi from another triplet mom.

Hi everyone! Checking-in - hope everyone is having a good week!

Logan hasn't climbed out of his crib again.:)
We bought a Honda Oddysey and turned in the "not so easy to get our daughter into the middle car seat" Pilot.
That's enough to make it a good week for me!

Jill

Kritter,

We went to the Club Med in the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana when I was 13 and my brother was 7. Best family vacation outside of disney world. They had a trapeze and other circus type activities plus all the other water sport, etc stuff you would expect in a kids' club. Granted it has been 18 years since I went (ouch!) but it was one fabulous trip. I know there is still a family club in Punta Cana and I am sure they have kept it up. You should know that there was topless bathing (my brother seeing that is a memorable moment still for me!:rotfl2: ) when we went - you may want to check on that if it is a concern at any of the carribean resorts.

thanks!!!

Oh my gosh!! I LOVE the PeterPan idea for Halloween!!! That is such a great idea!! There is not alot to pick from when you have 2 girls and a boy to have them all "match"... We are leaving April 12th!! Wahooo!!
Can't wait!!

have any of you guys shipped a box to your hotel b4 leaving home? i have a suitcase packed full of snacks and juice and paper plates, etc. but would to mail it instead of hualing it to the airport.
