traveling with multiples!!

oh my gosh I am sooo sorry thought that I have told you guys about what is happening before...so sorry must be on my cruise thread...

In July of 2004 I had a spontanous pneumonthorax ie: collapased lung...it eneded up resolving and reinflating itself....Six months later had another one on the same side same part of the lung big one this time 80% of the lung...It was soooo damaged since I had pain in my back for a while and a cough but thought it was nothing they had to remove 20% of my lung.....Stayed in the hospt... for five days this time...came home with a chest tube and a nurse...dr. removed the chest tube after having it in me for more than a week....Had to miss the twins fourth b-day since I was home with a chest tube...was terrible...but anyway....after they took the tube out the lung collapased again...had an emergency chest tube inserted while I was awake this time....had this "baby" tube as teh dr. calls it inserted in the front of my chest int he hospt.... for another four days this time... this chest tube was in me for two weeks at hoem witha nurse again etc....the lung collapsed with it in me again the tube I mean....Went into surgery again third time is a charm correct???? Had a large tube inserted and a pluradisis spelled wrong I am sure of it..where they burn the inside of the lung with talcom to make it stick...then they did this procedure as they call it in my room again with me awake and it killed me...my blood pressure fell, etc.. I was a mess..but it worked and the lung was up and we thought all was fine...I have since then been always bothered iwth on and off pain and saw a pulomonoligst...and he said it would heal over time and unlikely it would fall again...well boy they were wrong now on may 12th the lung fell well actually two days before the bottom part collapased...the pulomongolist sent me home and said bed rest lets see if it will resolve itself well I got worse etc..so on the 12th I had surgery which I was awake for ugh!!!!! and they put another chest tube in me...stayed five days and on the fourth day had that plurodissis done again...UGH!!!!!! Well saw the dr. today and it is still up...so that is the short and long of it....
Thanks for listening well reading this saga.....you guys are great thanks soo much for all of your support and friendship!!!!!!!!

Kim & Kristin, I sure wish I could offer some help but the best I can do is offer my support and prayers. Sometimes the best help is to listen, so if you would like to blow off steam or just talk about the difficulties please feel free to e-mail me. I wish I could do more, but I can sure listen and offer my best wishes!

Which leads me to another story that I hope you might be able to appreciate as mothers and some of you, fellow IVF-ers. It's a little difficult to talk about because it's so unusual and sometimes others are quick to say they would never do such a thing, but none of us really know how we would deal with a situation unless we experience it ourselves. It's been on my mind a great deal and I get emotional when I think about it, so I hope nobody minds if I talk about it here.

We had 5 embryos still frozen because I became pregnant on our first try. For the past 9 years they've been lingering in a freezer in our IVF clinic and I really didn't know what would become of them. The options they gave us were to destroy them, donate them to research, or donate them anonymously. I didn't like any of those options, since our own children came from that same frozen batch. Feeling stongly there must be another option, I went online and found an adoption agency which has a branch which deals with the adoption of frozen embryos. We researched it, and in 2002 we applied to the program. We found a couple this spring that we liked very much, who've been trying without success for several years to have a child. We chose them, and then they in turn chose us. Well they received our embryos this summer (which was a miracle in and of itself since they traveled, frozen, to the opposite coast, and indeed survived the thaw). They placed three of them into her this fall, and I'm happy to report that she is pregnant with one baby. :sunny: It's wasn't an easy decision but we felt it was the best choice for us and our family seeing as we were faced with this situation, and now I see it as a win-win situation. The couple will send us letters and pictures once a year, and any more than that is up to us as families. We'll see what happens, right now we're letting the dust settle. I know it will be emotional to see a child which will presumably look like ours do, and to explain all this to our own kids someday (have already started a bit) but I think the better good will come of it, and we'll be able to share in this family's joy from a distance. :sunny: Thanks for listening.

I know this is months later...but I wanted to say I think this was a wonderful selfless gift. Shows how much you loved those Embies that you wanted them to have a chance to reach their purpose in life. What a special couple you are...

HI and welcome!!!!!

I love it when I did not have to bring diapers...But had to make sure we went to the potty all of the time.....Go before you get in line for a long time or before shows etc.......

We are 31 year old twins (Leslie and Laura). We are identical, and are 3 minutes apart. We travel to WDW all the time. We have a friend who when we found out she was pregnant I said to her "your gonna have twins" and guess what? Yep 6 months later she had her twin daughters. When we go to the mall together it's really funny, people see the babies (they are 20 months old) and they go "awe look twins" but my sis will have one and I will have the other one then they look up and go "ohhh TWINS!" it's soo funny. How do you all like having twins?

Hi all and welcome
hope everyone is doing well
hugs Kim and Kristin
The cruise was great, but re-entry into real life is tough
I feel like I am still up to my eyeballls in laundry, have a great holiday weekend

Leslie and Laura. How great that you enjoy being twins (at least it sure sounds like you do). My sons are identical and 25 yrs old. They love it also. I have had a great time being a mother of twins. Even as a child I used to pretend I had twins and it was pretty special when I found out that I really was expecting twins. Fantastic! Everybody should be so fortunate! I have also been blessed with girls that are 13 months apart. I was very lucky! :thumbsup2

Tell us more about the cruise!!! Please.....

LESLIE AND LAURA,

welcome and soo neat to have grown twins here.....Do you guys still dress alike and what was it like growing up twins????????

BuzzPrincessMom, thank you. The baby will be born next month!! :goodvibes We are preparing to send a little package to them as we speak.

Kim and Kristen, hope things are better for you both. :grouphug: Kristen, I'd hoped to do a little reseach for you but DD crashed our computer doing Dora the Explorer on Nick.com one day :badpc: so I wasn't able (I am on an old computer now while we are having the laptop repaired). We do have pulmonary specialists in our hospital, though, and even though I work cardiac we sometimes work with them, so I plan to ask them about your situation when I see them. I don't know if it will be helpful (sounds like you had the gold standard of care already) but you never know. I'll keep you updated. :grouphug:

I always find things like this very interesting. Do you think it's possible you somehow had a premonition you would someday have twins?

I have things like this happen to me all the time and I wonder if they are more than mere coincidence. :confused3 I had one happen last week, in fact. Many years ago, for some unknown reason, I saw an ad in a dog magazine for a dog kennel in another state that breeds German Shepherd Dogs and I said to myself next time I get a GSD I want to get one there. I've never done that before. Fast forward about 8 years or so, and who comes into my hospital unit as a patient but the owner of this kennel. I found out when my coworkers told me there's someone who wants to meet you. :earseek: Turns out, he had pictures of his dogs in his room and everyone at work knows I love GSDs so they kept asking if he'd met me yet. Anyway, kind of weird. I have since gotten another dog but she is not cut out for therapy work so I may in the future want to get a dog who is (my plan is to take the dog into pediatric oncology wards, a perfect thing for me as a nurse, cancer survivor and dog lover; I also worked at Children's early in my career so it makes it even more of a pull). We'll see what happens...

There is a book someone gave me called When God Winks. It is all about things like this. His theory is that these are little "hints" we are given about life that let us know we're on the path were supposed to be on. Interesting reading.

Anyone else have things like this that happen to them?

All the time! In fact, when I was PG with the twins, DH and I both had dreams that we were having twins. He even asked the DR the first time we heard the heartbeat if there were two? The DR laughed at us. Imagine his surprise when I came from having my ultrasound and telling him that there were in fact TWO babies!

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the same beautiful weather we are here! Park district pool opened this weekend, so that's where we've been soaking up some sun and trying to stay cool!

Actually, I am adopted and I have felt ever since I was little that I was a twin and my other half was adopted somewhere else. My original birth certificate doesn't support this but then there were many cover-ups that long ago. I seriously (as a child) told my friends stories about my twin being lost!

I would love to hear if you find out when the baby is born also. What a wonderful thing to do. You deserve a special blessing!
