traveling with multiples!!

holy cow...8 hours alone in the car with the kids..hoping you slept over somewhere and did not do that all in one day....brave of you very brave.....

I found out at 5 weeks b/c I was being followed by an RE. I got pg after clomid/iui. Like Kritter, we started out with triplets but lost the third one around 10 weeks.

2 1/2 years later we finally got our third...and he was a COMPLETE surprise. God's funny like that.

The twins were born at 36 weeks weight 4lb14oz and 5lb4oz. Didn't have to spend anytime in the Nicu, they sent me home with those tiny bundles in 2 days.

skent10,

When I found out I was having triplets I was really into the genetics part. If I'm remembering right, mine will be 7 on Tues, fraternals can run on the dh's side. While the males obviously can't carry multiples, the gene that gives women the tendency to release more then one egg each month can be passed from father to daughter. That's why a father can have a twin or sibling twins, and then have his dd have twins also. Like I said, it's been over 7 yrs since I was into this, but I think this is what they told me.

Thanks for the response. That would account to why my SIL had twins this year, but it wouldn't explain my own, since I share no blood with SIL or FIL. Perhaps I'm a coincidence. My mom's first cousin (a male) had 2 sets of fraternal twin girls, but his wife doesn't share any blood with me either, so who knows where all these twins are coming from?! :jumping1: We aren't even drinking the same water!

Disney Fanatic--Congratulations and welcome to the world of multiples! It's a club not very many people want to join, but nobody will will give up their membership once they're in! :wave2:

Pea-N-Me--Thank you for your courageous decision to give another couple the opportunity to become parents. It may not have been the easy choice, but I feel it was the right one.

I love having the chance to talk to all you mommies of multiples.

Kritter:no I drove straight through down and back- drove down in the afternoon/ evening. Home during the day. I don't think it was brave I think it was a small mental lapse on my part. LOL. but hey we made it and I proved that I could do it by myself. I think the hardest part was loading and unloading the car actually. My oldest is a HUGE help to me -she is a "old" 8 in some aspects. ANd we stayed with my cousin while we were down there so even though we didn't hang out all the time together I did have a little help.

Feeling stongly there must be another option, I went online and found an adoption agency which has a branch which deals with the adoption of frozen embryos. We researched it, and in 2002 we applied to the program. We found a couple this spring that we liked very much, who've been trying without success for several years to have a child. We chose them, and then they in turn chose us. Well they received our embryos this summer (which was a miracle in and of itself since they traveled, frozen, to the opposite coast, and indeed survived the thaw). They placed three of them into her this fall, and I'm happy to report that she is pregnant with one baby. :sunny:

This has got me all teary-eyed! What a wonderful, unselfish, brave and kind thing you did!

I've been lurking on this thread since it started. I haven't posted because I don't have twins but I do have two daughters that are 2 weeks apart in age. They are adopted and not biologically related to one another.

They are all beautiful girls.

I have one dtr and 5 foster kids, does that count as multiples.

Thank you, Sandy, and congratulations to you! I imagine you are faced with many of the same issues that we are, having two daughters essentially the same age. Awesome! :flower: Were your daughters born outside of the US? There was a time we thought we'd like to adopt a child from China, but I guess God had other plans for us. One of my closest friends has two children by adoption, one from Russia and one from the US who is our Goddaughter. :goodvibes

LOL, Happy Lawyer - wow, 5 foster kids! Maybe this thread could have been called How did you start your family? :flower:

I have enjoyed reading this thread. I am mother of 6 year old identical boys and 8 year . I found out at 12 weeks. I remember at the ultrasound the women started giggling. I asked what was so funny. She said look at the screen . I told her all I can is what looks like 2 stones. I said "OMG,I have kidney stones!" " Aren't they supposed to hurt?" "I don't feel anything". :confused3

She proceeds to really start laughing!!!! She told me no, you do not have kidney stones, you are having twins!!!!! I said but they look like rocks. She said thats what they look like at 12 weeks. I still havent lived that one down yet. :rotfl:

I love all of the stories and glad to see that our little group is growing....

Welcome to all...

I love to read/hear stories about the multiples..
How was every's new year???

Ty happylawyer my hats off to you too I work with a number of foster families and wow what a hard job some of them have ( I am a child and adolescent psychiatric nurse).

Now off topic...
MY DH is drivng me crazy - he thinks I am being to OCD over this trip. Yes I have a slight obsession but I am planning planning planning... just as I would if we were just going on any vacation with these 3 kiddos. You all know how that is... I have to be extremely careful of everything to make it 'fair' for my oldest that we aren't doing more for the little ones then her. I guess I just want it as close to perfect as possible. And I know that nothing is ever as it is planned. My life is a good point of that LOL. anyways any tips for us going would be appreciated. thanks for letting me vent....

I am compulisive when it comes to planning anything especiallyour WDW trips...When are you leaving again???And where are you staying???

We are leaving April 15th late in the afternoon after my dh gets off of work around 700ish - we are about 15 hours away from Orlando, so the plan is to go as far as we can then stopping when we get tired we will stop somewhere. We are staying at POR. I have all of our ADR's made.

Also I am tossing around the idea of getting safety leashes for the little ones. I am not up for a huge debate but would like to know if anyone has used them with their mutiples and how they worked out. Thanks

i had to share this my coworker, had a set of twins they are 2 and she has just had her next set of twins, she already has a 15 year old, my hats off to her, first set is bg 2nd set is gg, wow

Wow fifteen hours....Great that you made all of your ADR already...You will love POR my parents have stayed there...
Next I would look online and decided/find out what time each park opens and parade times then you can plan out what you want to do each day...I found that mine loved the MK more than anywhere...Epcot is not really something they are into at this age...Did a few things there and then headed over to Mk...MGM is duable in about a half of a day..Little thing we did if you are going to keep them out late for fireworks,etc.. make sure you plan for a rest in the middle of the day or a nap..
Did not do the leashes used umbrella strollers this way they could get in and out when we told them too..then when they were tired we could still move quickly to the next thing..Then they could also drink. or eat a snack while we were moving and it gave me a place to store things....water, etc...I always take a small collapased cooler with me and fill it with drinks, etc.. for the park sinc eyou are driving I would stock up on water drink boxes and snacks this will save you a ton of money inthe park..You can ask for fridge in your room for ten dollars extra a day....this way you can keep drinks etc.. leftovers in yoru room...I always pack sandwiches for the park for lunch...they let you bring them in and it saves money to be spent on other things while you are there....With driving you totally can bring food with you...Highly recommend it....water is a must since it is so much in the parks....hoep this helps...
