Not sure if this is being posted on the right forum, but not really sure where it does belong!

My sister is flying down to WDW on Sunday. She was wondering about bringing medication for her DH with them in their carry ons. She normally has a week pill holder but didn't know whether it would be better to leave all the medicine in their bottles or would it be ok to just use the weekly holder. :confused3

Any ideas? Thanks for any help! :flower:

Why wouldn't it be okay? Is the DEA doing searches now? :confused3

I usually fill up the weekly holder and then add some "extras" in. I know it doesn't help with the organization to throw in extra pills, but you just NEVER know if you're going to get stranded for an extra few days (airline strike or something). You just never know. So I like to take a few extra day's worth of meds with me.

You can carry your meds on the plane. I usually put dh's meds in an organizer and then carry a list with me of what he is taking. No one has ever said a word.

According to my Uncle, who flew recently and had his bag searched - he is a diabetic and has many meds that he needs - they didn't have a problem as long as you had the meds in their bottles with your name on the label. As for keeping in a weekly minder sort of container, I would say carry that along empty and then put the pills in when you arrive, just enough for the days you will be at your destination.

I've also heard that medication should be in their original containers. I have put mine in the pill holders before and not had a problem.

I'm thinking that having meds in their original containers is more an issue with travel out of the country. As long as you're not traveling with a huge amount of pills in an unmarked container, I don't see how it would be a problem having them out of the original container and in a pill organizer for domestic travel.

They really only have to be in the original containers if there are needles that go along with the meds. I've had every variety from prescription containers, to a baggie of Advil, and have never had a problem going through security.

It might not be a bad idea to keep them in the original container just in case, God forbid, something should happen to you and someone needed to know what medications / dosgaes you currently take. If you don't want to take the bottles, at least make a list of this medication, dosages, and prescribing doctor, and keep it in a place someone could access easily.

Husband is a diabetic. We didn't have any problems and, in act, weren't even asked what the syringes were for (which I didn't think was very good).

I think that you'll be fine with the pills in the weekly organizer in most situations, but I'd also put the original pill bottles in the carry-on as well. That way they can reorganize the pills if they get an over-zealous screener, and they'll have what they need if the baggage gets lost and they're prevented from coming home for whatever reason. It's a worst-case scenario, but once you've already spent the time to think about it, you might as well be prepared.

I really think they should be in the original containers in your carry ons. If there is some kind of medical emergency wouldn't it be better to have the labels with you.

i agree. it's just better to keep them in the original containers.

i have only ever been questioned about medication while traveling internationally (including canada), but better safe than sorry.
