Hi,
Has anyone used the Kennel at Disneyland and liked it? I know they have rules about going back to check on the dog and give them breaks. Anything else we should know?

Also, what is a good dog friendly hotel in the area?

Thanks!

I haven't used the kennel, I did take a look at it once to see what I thought but honestly though the workers there were nice I just didn't like the caged up kennel feel of where the dogs stay. It was very Lady and the Tramp doggy jail setup as far as their daytime accommodations. My husband and I travel for a living though for work with our dogs and they are used to hotels so when we go to Disney they hang out in the room and we check in on them midday.

As far as accommodations go that accept dogs we really enjoy the Red Lion Maingate hotel which is conveniently located next to the Toy Story and Friends Parking Lot. They have very reasonable pet fees, give you little pet goody bags, and have a nice (though small) grass area...(Also their parking lot area is semi fenced in and away from the road since it is behind the hotel which is nice. We have also stayed and the Towne Place Suites which was decent. Our least favorite so far though has been the Clarion so I don't recommend a stay there.

Hotels - Anaheim Plaza Inn, Red Lion Inn, Residence Inn Maingate.

Be aware, most of the hotels have a requirement of not leaving the dog in the room unless you are there. We do leave ours (crated) so if they have to come in the room for an emergency there is no issue with escape.

The kennels are nice. They require shot records. You come back to visit and take the dog out to potty and walk. We have used it and thought it was good.

I have been 3 times with my dog, and I really couldn't find myself to leave her at the Kennel.

Honestly the best hotel is the Motel 6 which is actually nicely renovated, and mostly only has tourists staying which makes it a decent choice. The staff has never complained and we have never had a problem. We usually ask for no housekeeping, so the staff will never walk in on my dog.

Another option which worked for us was we rented a vacation rental near Huntington beach( we had a car) and she really liked the condo, and we were able to worry less. I also recommend taking your dog to the pet friendly section of HB so they can enjoy their vacation too! I always usually take a afternoon break from the parks, take her for a nice walk spend sometime with her before returning to the parks. Hopefully you can find something that works for you, it is hard to enjoy the parks when you are concerned if your dog is ok at the hotel.

We use the Kennel a lot and we like it. A few things you should be aware of regarding the kennel. They are strict about the vaccination paperwork. They want the vaccination paperwork on your Vet's letterhead. They also want the date each vaccine was given and the date each vaccine expires. The kennel is on a first come first serve basis. Most of the time that is not a big deal but sometimes they sell out. Especially for large dogs so you should try to get there in the morning to make sure you get a spot. They want you to come back every 4 hours to take your dog out. The kennel opens 30 minutes before the earliest park opens and 30 after the latest park closes. They do not feed or handle your dogs. The people who work there are really nice. Always call the hotel your going to so you know their current pet policy upfront. Some of the area hotels say they take pets but charge you crazy pet fees or only take pets less than 20 lbs. The phone number to the disneyland kennel is: 714-718-7662

I forgot about Motel 6, and yes they are nice. I believe the Sheraton also accepts dogs.

Asking for no housekeeping only prevents housekeeping from coming in. However, if there is a maintenance issue, they will enter. It was about 5 years ago a couple of dogs were lost from the Hilton because of this. (They no longer accept pets.) Also, if your dog barks while you are gone, they can call animal services.

Most have something like the following regarding their pet policy. This is from the Sheraton site " Dogs may not be left in guest rooms unattended at any time for the duration of their stay."

We just stayed at the Anaheim Marriott Suites, they are pet friendly. They were very nice and much friendlier than the Courtyard down the street (not pet friendly). We don't leave our dogs in room, though, we have someone watch them while we are gone. The Residence Inn is also pet friendly, and has more grass for the dogs.
