MY kitty moved to Orlando with my mom last year and she opted to take her in the car there... we were not comfortable with flying them, it's traumatic on them and just not worth it to us.
Allie roamed freely in the car, she had a small litterbox behind one of the seats (Honda Accord was the car), and mom put her fave blanket on the top of one of the boxes in the backseat for her to lay on. She wasn' t happy at first, and yowled alot, but got used to it. We trained her to wear a leash easily, and she got out and walked around at each stop... It was only a 2 day trip, and mom just found a pet friendly hotel to stay at overnight. =)
SHe did really well! But of course, she's a laid back cat... we couldn't have done it with our older cat, which died just 2 months before hte move. He wouldn't have handled things well.
Good luck to you!
