Traveling Turkeys Part 2 11/22/08

In half an hour, it'll be 8 days until we (meaning ME!) begin our magical journey... :jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1:

HELP----

I have a food question? Kenna is lactose intolerant. We buy Lactaid milk for her. She is ok with cooked milk in foods, it is the "raw" milk that she has problems with. I do allow her to have a small amount of ice cream occasionally, but she usually has a little more diarrhea afterwards. She drinks milk all the time. She will drink some water and a little sprite, but it's mostly milk. We go thru a gallon a week.

DCL doesn't have Lactaid. They have regular milk, rice milk and soy milk. Her pediatrician hasn't wanted us to use the soy milk.

Do any of you use soy or rice milk and is there a difference in the taste? I am wondering if I add Strawberry or chocolate powder in it. I may just end up buying a lot of pediasure. I know that she will drink it.

Any help out there?

Lora

DD6 and I don't do milk either. I've never been diagnosed or anything, but basically it makes us sick in enjoyable quantities. Yogurt doesn't make us sick though, so thank goodness Ben and Jerry came out with Cherry Garcia Yogurt, or my life would be slightly less magical!

One thing to note is that if you are dairy intolerant, it is possible that you will be soy intolerant also. Rice milk products are easily digestible, I haven't heard of anyone having issues with them, so unless you have the opportunity to try soy at home before the trip, I don't recommend trying soy products for the first time on the ship.

Of course taste is a matter of opinion, but most people I know prefer rice milk to soy milk. The soy is thick, almost malty in comparison to real milk. The rice milk more closely resembles the constancy of skim milk, but is sweeter. Personally, I prefer soy; the rice milk is too sweet for me. Plus soy is typically less expensive, and comes in flavors like vanilla, chocolate, and MOCHA (mmm!!)

For real though, I miss milk. I was sick basically my whole life. They just diagnosed me with "irritable bowel" and if I complained they gave me some pills. It wasn't until I was breastfeeding DD and did a special diet to find out what foods she was sensitive to (to try to relieve the colic) that I realized that both of us reacted strongly to dairy and eggs... There is no replacement for real milk :confused3

Anyways, I suppose that was TMI. But milk is something that I feel passionately about, like it broke up with me but I still love it anyways. So all of you folks who can drink milk, cherish it always!!!:rotfl:

We got tickets to see Arabian Nights the night before the trip. The nice lady told me that it will be their Christmas show, which is exciting to me although as a first-timer I have nothing to compare it to. They're running a special deal for people in the military or health care workers, and I managed to score 5 VIP tickets for $150!!

I'm not sure exactly what time the bus leaves AKL, but I hope we get to port in time to get a decent boarding pas number thingey. I was never able to score those Palo brunch reservations, and, and, I need to buy the DCL scrapbooking kit from the store-place, and, and, we want to see the whole boat and splash in the pools and see everything and do everything FIRST!!! And, and (my roommates baby just started repeating the word "and" so that he can tell stories in a single run-on sentence. Since it's really adorable when he does it, I started doing it too. It's really just annoying when I do it, but it makes me giggle! ) AND I'M SO EXCITED I MIGHT JUST EXPLODE, OR IMPLODE, OR SOMETHING!! I've never been on a cruise, I haven't been on any real vacation where we actually go somewhere in years, I've been planning and saving for this one for two years, I haven't seen my mom in a year, my baby has never met Micky or Minnie or the princesses or anything, and this is going to be the BEST VACATION EVER!

:cheer2: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!:cheer2:

Most of the shirts are in the mail with a few exceptions and whatever is left should go out in a day or two. 76 shirts! My eyes are burning from all the lime green but it is a good feeling ::yes::

I say something like this to my Brownies and it is true here: pixiedust:
  • If I made a mistake and sent the wrong sizes, I can fix it
  • If you made a mistake and ordered the wrong sizes, I can fix it

I don't want any to get lost in the mail, I am tracking most of them so hopefully you'll have them in plenty of time.

Time for sleep now! :cloud9:

Welcome Ron! What part of Cincinnati are you from?

Welcome Ron! See you on board! We are having a meet at 2:30 right before the lifeboat drill. Check back and I will post the location as soon as DCL gets back to me. I'll be calling them tomorrow if they don't call me!

Chez - DCL told me the bus from AKL leaves at noon. My TA told me to call them the day before we arrive or check in at the DCL desk at AKL when we get there. She thinks it leaves earlier. I hope so!! Don't want to be the last one on board!

My DS came home from school yesterday with a note from the principal that he has approved his days absent as excused! He had to get signatures from all of his teachers but no extra homework so far!:woohoo:
Have a good day.
Make good choices.
Be kind.

Hi Staciepirate: :flower3:
Good Morning Ken :dance3:

PRINCESSFAN2006~ I saw on the news today that the Rockefeller Christmas tree is from your town! What a great story! 70 year old twins whose mother said 77 years ago that her 4 foot first Christmas tree was going to be in Rockefeller Center. Then recently a blue bird has been flying around it and sure enough it was selected!

Yes I just saw that segment on the Today Show also. What a beautiful tree!

DH wrote a letter to the attendance office at the high school requesting the absenses be excused for DS and DD. DD took it yesterday and they signed it :thumbsup2 so the kids could request assignments ahead. I don't expect any work to be completed on the ship since DD has added "Absolutely NO homework allowed" to the bottom of her packing list. :rotfl2: At least the vacation will be EXCUSED!!! What a relief.
Kids are leaving today for Indianapolis for a band competition (they were there last weekend too). Sundays have become the homework catch-up day for the month of November. Its just a bit exhausting always trying to play catch-up. Can you tell I'm not a procrastinator by nature. :rolleyes1

Hi Staciepirate: :flower3:
Good Morning Ken :dance3:
Judy ~ That's great that your DS got approval. My DS and I have come to the conclusion that it would probably be better to tell his teachers about the trip ahead of time. I hate to ask you this, but could you resend me a copy of your letter, please. I deleted it by mistake. I'll need all the help I can get to make it sound good. It's stated in the student handbook that no absence, due to a vacation, will be excused. :guilty:

I have 1 group driving to port, can they drop off luggage then park or do they have to park the cart the stuff over to terminal?

Are we allowed to send a case of water if it has a bag tag? Somewhere I thought I heard no liquids?

Thanks,

Jim

Morning all

Cindy, you are the BEST!!! I don't know where you find the time, but we all appreciate your efforts to turn Port Canaveral GREEN!

I am definitely planning on going to the tequilla tasting. We did it last time and I can't wait to do it again. Anyone want to go as a group? Dh will probably go to the beer tasting too, but not me. Beer is not my thing.

I made the kids a countdown paper chain today. It's pathetically small which is GOOD. I also ordered my sunscreen last night. My house is still a disaster with clothes and suitcases everywhere. I'm heading to NYC and NJ tomorrow for the week end, and have to find another suitcase just for that trip. Agh... so much to do and here I sit on the Dis!

Judy, if we rented a bigger car, I would head right over to AKL and pick you up nice and early. I would hate for you to be last onboard! I suppose we could squeeze you in, but probably Billy Bob and DS would have to take the bus. I'm sure they wouldn't mind once they saw our car and our two wild kids in car seats in the back. :0)

Shell

Where's Chuck... do you think he sat up all night playing that new game? Chuck, Chuck, move away from the console!!!!

They most definitely won't leave to get you to port that early from AKL. Their stops are pretty routine. I wish I'd know, our crew is at AKL too. We rented a SUV to go us to port at our own leisure. We could've rented a larger vehicle - you know stretch Hummer or something to fit us all in. ;) I'll definitely try to keep posted on the shuttle launch. It would be cool to see but not cool to sit in traffic.

We are doing the tequilla tasting as well group of 4 (I can't see mom and dad doing it)

Debs website just posted a few nice blogs. One is about MVMCP and the other is info about the holidays on DCL.:santa:

Chuck - Are you among us or have you been absorbed by the new game?

Shell - I'm in if anyone wants to go to tastings as a group. We can look out for each other in case someone tips a few too many! :drinking: :drinking1 And thanks for the offer for the lift! I guess I better stay with the DH and DS though. As far as riding with 2 kids in the back - I would love it. I'm going to be as excited and wound up as they are! You'd have 3 wild kids in the back!:scared1:

Here's a question I had posted before and don't recall getting an answer. Do they still have gingerbread house making activities for families. I know there's a big house on board but I remember they offered it as an activity on our last cruise.

That is so nice of you Cindy! I can't wait to see the shirts. I may wear ours onto the ship in place of making my own or trying to find matching Mickey tropical wear (which Disney shopping has not had for a while!)

:lmao: As a fellow gamer, I bet Lisa will have a hard time getting him onto the ship, let alone to the Dis any time soon. When I get caught up in a new game, I do only what I can't escape doing (food, bathroom, every little thing for the kids)

I have so much laundry to do before the cruise! I also need to buy clothes since I have no long sleeve shirts anymore. We have a cold front coming this weekend that will probably stick around more than the last one.

Okay I am answering my own question because it was going to make me nuts....and Chuck is out in front of a Wal-Mart anyway so I guess he could not answer it anyway.

Thanks Michelle. I am sold. This exact statement is in BOLD letters on the website:

Order beers, sangria and soft drinks by walkie-talkie from your hole!

Hi Staciepirate: :flower3:
Good Morning Ken :dance3:

Hey Judy!! It will be here before you know it!! We got a call from the Superintedent of Schools last night. Monday will not be a make up day after all. So Kiah will not miss any school!

The mini golf looks great. We may consider going if we have time. I'd love to golf with lizards! (I love lizards. They are so prehistoric looking).

I just went to the U.S.Post Office web site and completed my hold request for our mail while we're gone. Now I know we're getting close!

Cindy - I received an email (2:00am) from the USPO that the t-shirt package was ready for mailing! :woohoo: Once again, you are the best for doing this for us!:flower3:
Judyºoº

Well I did buy the game at Walmart at 12:01 a.m. and I was up kinda late, but this morning has been extremely hectic in the office and soon we will be on our way to the stadium where the Hurricanes play Va tech tonight on national TV.

Chuck:cool1:

Chuck, I hope you can eventually break away from your game. I was talking about the new stuff with the Head Nerd that is across the hall from me. He went to work while his wife was playing this morning.

Ken, your superintendent waited almost a week. Last week I got a board update that the commisioner of ed approved the waiver of a day for all districts that had the TS day off.....Maybe he forgot to check his email. ;) They determined it was more costly to open the schools on that Monday then to be closed and miss the day of education.

Congrats to those that got their absences listed as excused. Sandy I know I let my kids make up the work even if the absence is not excused. As long as they are honest with me I will work with them. So hopefully his teachers will as well.

I have 1 group driving to port, can they drop off luggage then park or do they have to park the cart the stuff over to terminal?

Thanks,

Yes, you can drop off people and luggage. There are porters then go park the car.

As for water yes you are able to check it in, but not recommended. Sometimes they do not make it or make it all in one piece. It is advised that you carry it on or have it in something.

Here's a question I had posted before and don't recall getting an answer. Do they still have gingerbread house making activities for families. I know there's a big house on board but I remember they offered it as an activity on our last cruise.

Judy ºoº

Totally guessing on this, but I know they have had it in the past when we sailed. But this maybe one of those things that depends on who is in charge of doing the activity scheduling right now.

So since several of you wanted this information I placed a call to a friend. Here is a copy and paste of the email. If you have any other questions feel free to send me a PM. This is specific to our sailing and I will insert the Disney Legal Disclaimer....all times subject to change:)
