Traveling Turkeys Part 2 11/22/08

DH and I just had an "appropriate dress" discussion re: formal and semi formal nights. Now I don't know what to wear.
Judy

I had this discussion with our friends we're going with. Her DH has a tux. But she doesn't want to wear her formal gown. My DH has a nice suit, but it'll be a fight to get him to wear it. The past 2 cruises we've gone on I've made him bring it then he spent the whole dinner pointing out the people in jeans who weren't kicked out.

I think I've resigned myself to wearing nice clothes but not "formal". This is my vacation and I want to be comfortable and I'm not when I'm that dressed up. We're not going to Palo for dinner anyway, just brunch. I think I'm second guessing myself because I'm really, really close to closing my suitcase for the last time!

We just got back from a day at the Magic Kingdom. We took all the kids for haircuts and then we played since lines were not very long.

He's in a FL public middle school.

.

Okay I do not as much about middle school. But make sure if you call him afterwards he can make up the work. Some districts have policies where they will not get any credit for unexcused absence. Also, I asked our guru of attendance and she a pre-arranged absence should be considered excused as long as it is approved. May want to look into that option if they say he gets zeros for the days he is unexcused.

I know I personally would not give a kid who has a pre-arranged absence for a family trip/wedding.....but I am about family time as a bigger learning experience then a worksheet or workbook.

Our county ended up closing schools during one of those storms earlier this year. You'll love this briliant planning. They have the entire Thanksgiving week off but use Monday and Tuesday as "hurricane makeup days" (pause while everybody in snow country chuckles). So she is supposed to go in for one day of school for the entire week. Now how many kids do you really think are going to be there??

That was the make-up day for our county. they appealed to the state saying it would cost more to open the school for just Monday then it would be to waive the day. They recieved their waiver. And they are right between teachers calling in and the number of students that won't come to school it is not cost effective, in my opinion anyway.

Paloma is not set to come anywhere near us...besides a Cat 1 Hurricane or TS is really usually just a big rain event in Florida any more...the post Hurricane Andrew construction codes resolved many of those issues...not to take them lightly, but we dont bother w/shutters below a cat 3...now GC may bet wet as might CC a bit.

Chuck:cool1:

What we put our shutters up yesterday  However TS Fay did some serious damage in these parts....of course that is partially a result of the stalling.

As much as we go to Disney, and it's a lot considering we have had premium annual passes for about 10+ years,Chuck:cool1:

Chuck will you be up here for Veteran's Day? Or are you doing Vero Beach?

I chose my stateroom over a year and a half ago because I actually want to be near the laundry room.

My mom is the same way. She is more stressed if she does not do laundry while on vacation then if she waits to get home and do it. So you are not alone.

14 days or 353 hours until the 22nd (according to DIS). That's not much time folks!! Two weeks from right now (6:49am) we will have been in the air for 49 minutes!:woohoo:

Michelle - Did your kids get haircuts at the Harmony Barbershop? My DH had his cut last year when we were there. There were 2 little boys getting their first cuts while we were there and they were adorable.

Have a good day. Make good choices. Be kind.:flower3:

Yes, they did. One of the boys was getting his haircut and even I got my haircut. I am still pulling "pixie dust" out of my hair.

It is always cute to watch all the kids get their haircut and select their "hair paint" colors and pixie dust.

Good morning everyone,

Judy, you were right. I think I am over the crap (literally):lmao: No complaints from Bob this morning either.

13 days for us. 2 weeks from now, we should be on the rails in Florida:cool1: Of coarse, Bob and I could be suffering from hangovers depending on how the girls were on the train during the night.:confused3 I hear the pool at the Hyatt calling me. Hey those of you at the Hyatt--have any of you thought about where and when we could meet? I have Mackenzie conviced that she and McKenna could stay int he room with Melinda and order something from room service if she would let Bob and I go out to meet with you guys.

Cleaning, scrapping, and packing are on my list for today, plus making phone calls on last minute stuff for the trip.

Chuck--Since you're the resident expert----is CC truly decorated for Christmas on Friday when we go back?

Have a good day and make good choices. I'll check back in an hour or two.

Lora

Michelle we will be in Vero tomorrow thru Tuesday.

Mason has had his haircut in Disney with multiple colors and all those little pixie dust things - what a mess.

CC should be decorated, but since some have not been there, I won't give away the details and ruin the surprise...just make sure to have a camera ready when you get off the boat.

Chuck:cool1:

Boy, our group is getting chatty!!! :thumbsup2

All I have got to say is where is my Turkey? I'm jealous............

Lora glad to hear you are feeling better. Everybody remember always wash your hands for atleast 30 seconds and make good choices.:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao:

So glad you're feeling better. :thumbsup2 It must be the same bug we had up here. Maybe it blew south through the Appalachian Mt. passes!:rotfl2:
CC will not be decorated on our first stop on Sunday but will be on our second on Friday. The decorations are fun and something I'm looking forward to seeing again.:santa:

THANKS I got it!

Lora, just look for the wild crowd at the Hyatt Bar. I'll be the one wearing the lampshade.:rotfl:

WOW, I just realized I only need 3 more posts and I'll be at 1000. Wow, when I first joined here I would have never thought I would chat that much.
Isn't it great!!!!!

I WANNA LAMPSHADE!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Just got off the phone with the Chauffeur we used in May of last year from Mears. He's picking us up at the Amtrak and taking us to the Hyatt.

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: NO HANDLING THE BAGS:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:    NO HANDLING THE BAGS:banana:

He was very very nice and we really liked him. I have his business card next to the AAA and Hotel discount cards in my wallet.

We took Kenzie to BBB last May. I didn't think we would ever get the hairspray and pixie dust out of that head of hair. Other than the frequent trims of the ends, she has never had it cut. It goes down to mid butt. (She'd have a cow if she knew I said that on here):scared1:

OK gotta go clean another room or 2.

What are we going to do with our time after the cruise is over. We're all going to have to book another cruise together so that we can keep up with the conversations, and take up all of our time, like it does now.

HHMMMM--can't remember what life was like before the dis and meeting all of you.
