Traveling Turkeys 2010

flmomof2- thanks for the heads up... maybe we should switch MIL and SIL

HerrQSmee- We got all the ressies made. I thought we'd miss out on Palo's for brunch or something, but we got Monday at 11:30. Maybe we'll see you there. We also are doing Palo's for dinner on Sunday since we'll be in our formal gear anyway. I also got all the nursery ressies I wanted.

How crazy that things aren't booked up already. But we had some trouble with the website yesterday when we tried to book, so maybe others are as well, but it worked out for us. :thumbsup2

We are getting so excited!!! I can't wait and the thought of all the good food is making my mouth water.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! You all must be busy because the thread is super quiet :goodvibes

Lauren - we had a great weekend. Still working on lots of projects around the house but some of them are slowly getting finished.

Our passports expired earlier this month but we just received our new ones! Glad that went smoothly.

I ventured over to the Wonder's Thanksgiving cruise board. They are still on page 3 but we did find that one of our shipmates has changed ships. Buckeyejennifer who was on our FE participant list changed her resi to the Wonder. Rats! (but well wishes just the same!) Now I only have strissel, you, and us on the list. A small but merry crew!

Do you guys have any plans for excursions? I think we are going to put something together outside of DCL this time. Striking out on our own is always an adventure!

We are cruising as well! We have little children. Age 2, Age 5 and my sisters family Age 9, age 7, age 6.

My cabin would love to joung the Fish extenders! Can someone give us some tips?

My husband, me, and my 9 year old daughter will be on this cruise. We also got our friends and their 9 year old to go as well. We are still working on getting the in-laws to go.

This will be our third cruise. We can't wait to go. I already have my excursions booked. Formal wear done. Pirate stuff done. Now I just wait.

Thinking about having a birthday celebration for my 9 year old. What do you guys think? I think she will like it since her friend will be with her.

Yay. Just made our final payment yesterday. Getting ready for the fun part, booking all the excursions, planning formal wear etc.
So I have read my Passporter and the Disboards for advice, but I am still confused as to what night I should make a Palo reservation for. I don't want to do Palo on formal night because we are all going to get dressed up together. Also don't want to do it on Pirate's Night, Thanksgiving dinner or our first rotation at Animator's Palace. We are travelling with DS 7 and DD6. Any other special nights that I don't want to miss. From reading Passporter it sounds likeformal night will be Sunday, Pirate Tuesday, Thanksgiving obviously Thursday. Should we aim for Monday for Palo???

Still need to book our room at the Hyatt for the night before and the night after our cruise. I think we are going to splurge and take a car service to the port from the Hyatt as a special treat for our first Disney cruise.

We would be up for fish extenders too if you veterans can tell us what to do.

Thanks

Hilary

Welcome Dunleavy and Whowhon! So excited that more people are joining our thread. We were feeling a little lonely on this thread.... We have a website if anyone is interested. It has the schedule and projected theme nights. Just pm me and I will send you the link. :thumbsup2

This is going to be a great cruise. :woohoo: My DD will turn 15 on the cruise. Her sister thinks it is a conspiracy because this is the 3rd time we have celebrated her birthday onboad. It just so happens that our girls get the whole Thanksgiving week off so it is easy to schedule a cruise that week. On the first cruise, I went through DCL gifts and had the room decorated when we arrived. Last time, I brought my own decorations and did it while DH and other DD distracted her. She was so surprised! Not sure what I will do this time. The servers always make them feel so special on their birthday. Whowhon, I know your daughter will love celebrating her birthday onboard!

Would love for anyone to join the FE list. It is so much fun for the kids (adults too) to see what is waiting for them at their door! On the last cruise, we got a little of everything. Trinkets for pirate night like tatoo stickers, slap bracelets, etc. Stuff to remember the cruise by such as keychains, cups, music, notepads- I still have a magnet on my refridge. Items to celebrate Thanksgiving- we made turkey magnets for the door. And of course, there is always Disney stuff- coloring books, pencils, notepads, princess things,etc... Just remember to leave room in your luggage to take things on the ship. I try to find small items that will lay nicely in my suitcase. You deliver things on one day or multiple days- it is all up to you. We are such a small group right now, that it should be easy this year. Last time I did it- we had about 30 staterooms to visit. My girls loved delivering the FE gifts. Your FE can be as simple as a plastic bag or as fancy as a mermaid's tail. You can find people on Ebay that sell them- they can personalize them, too.

I think you are right about the schedule. Passporters was 100% correct for our 7 day Western Caribbean cruise. We chose Wednesday night as Palo- that gives us an opportunity to go through the whole dinner rotation but not miss any of the theme nights. We are in St. Thomas that day so it is a short day on land. We picked a time different than our normal dining rotation. We have late dining but chose a 6:30 dinner so that if we made a mistake, we can still join our girls at dinner. If you have early seating, you can pick a later Palo dinner time and have dinner in the normal rotation with your kids (just have appetizers or drinks while your kids get the whole meal). There is so much to think about.

That is good advice I think that day looked to be theme free and we will be back early enough from the shore. Good tip on doing it a little later too. There is so much to consider and try to fit in. My only other cruise was Celebrity to Alaska in 2008 for our 15th anniversary (without kids). Being cruise newbies and loving to socialize and take part in activities we absolutely wore ourselves out. I am trying to take it easier this cruise which is why all the sea days appealed to me (and not having to cook Turkey Dinner).

If Passporter is correct on our predicted rotation, it means we will be in Parrot Cay for formal night which bums me out a little because it sounds like a fairly casual restaurant. Oh well, go with the flow.

Just bought travel insurance and have our Hyatt ressie made.

Now I need to study the excursion brochures. Any favorites for St. Maarten?

We have always started our rotation in Animator's Palate. My youngest daughter has yet to make it all the way through dinner that night. She is prone to motion sickness and usually heads back to the room for an early night right after appetizers. :sad2: We lucked out and had formal night at Lumieres. It was great. Passporters says the rotation is based on the age of the dinner party. I am wondering if ours will change now that our girls are older. :confused3 Youngest DD is crossing her fingers so that she can see the magic at Animator's Palate.

As far as excursions go, we didn't find anything that interested us through DCL. My youngest DD is not very adventurous so snorkeling is out. We are going to go to the French side by taxi, sightsee some, have lunch and leisurley wander back over to the Dutch side. Will probably spend some time on the beach relaxing. We have a long stay at St. Maarten.

Ooh, formal in Lumieres that would be the best. I presume they keep with the regular schedule and have Thanksgiving night be semi-formal. This morning on my train ride to work, I started to plan out the evenings as far what we would wear to see if I have the excuse to by new clothes.:worship:
Looks like I may not need anymore fancy dinner wear, but think I need to pick-up something formal for DD6. I promised her that she could wear a long dress and something with a little heel while we are on the cruise. This little one is a fashionista in training, I am just waiting for her to get good enough at make-up and hair to help me out as I am clueless.

Is the the special tea with wendy or alice??? I seem to have read conflicting reports.

Hope you don't get tired of all my questions now that I am in planning mode.

Hilary

Unfortunately, we just switched to the Nov 13th Western sailing. Enjoy your "turkey week" cruise.

Hilary,
I am so in that mood of planning. I mentioned to my DDs that we need to start making a clothes list and do some shopping! I have already put clothes aside in my closet that I know I want to pack!:thumbsup2

As far as tea goes, they say that it can be tea with Wendy or Alice. We had tea with Alice. It was so great! They serve delicious chocolate chip cookies and apple juice for tea. Alice came with the Mad Hatter. They act out a skit while you enjoy your tea and cookies. Afterwards, you may go greet Alice and have photos and/or autographs. You have to go to the customer service desk and get tickets. It is held on the sea days and you can choose what day you want to go. Last time we only had two at sea days and it was held on both. Not sure if that will change because we have 3 at sea days. It is all free- they just need to keep track of the numbers because it is in a small place- Sea Bands, I think. It is pretty popular so I reccommend going early to get the tickets. We did it on the first day. We loved the event- and even though I have teenage girls, they still want to go, if nothing else to get the cookies! :goodvibes

Sorry that you won't be with us but just think you will be on the Magic that much sooner! :thumbsup2 Have a great trip!

Welcome to all the newcomers! Glad to have someone else join the FE :thumbsup2

We are at WDW right now. Our first time staying at OKW and I absolutely love it. It's a whole different world doing it with a mobile infant. She does not like to nap in her stroller so we've been coming back to the room in the afternoon. I'm just glad she's behaving for meals! Too bad we go home tomorrow :confused3

We decided we're just going to walk around at port. I did get ressies for Lorelei at flounder's for every night at dinner. It will be so nice to eat without having to feed someone else too.

I would like to join FE with you. I wrote a long PM letter :surfweb: with all my hopes, dreams, fears and ideas about my trip. I'm unable to PM guess I'm too new. Wish I would have saved the letter in another form because they erased it on me.:badpc:

Welcome Snowwhyt! Glad to have you onboard! Our FE list is growing! YIPEE!:cool1: Hope everyone is having a nice long weekend!

If anyone is interested secret porthole room 5024 is available! Same as the one I posted before you pay for a category 10 and get the category 8 room with window (obstructed view).

I am surprised nobody has grabbed that hidden porthole room!

How's this for a logo for our cruise...
