Can someone please recommend a campground to stay at on the way from Philly area to disney? I'm looking at Point South KOA but seems like it might be a bit too long with 2 kids. Any other suggestions would be great.

We have stayed at the Florence, SC KOA and the KOA in Savannah, GA. Both are nice.

We're driving down to the fort for the first time this October. We're stopping overnight in Walterboro, SC at a campground called New Green Acres RV Park. They're on the web: http://www.newgreenacres.com/. The campground looks very clean and quiet. And the best part is that it's only about $25.00 per night. All we really want is a place to drop the jacks, eat dinner, sleep and go! It's only about a 5-6 hour drive to WDW from there. We're so excited! The trip is a surprise for our boys. They think we're going to SC for vacation. Wait until they wake up the next morning and we tell them where we're really going! Woo hoo!!:yay:

When are you headed down?

We will be there for Halloween week somewhere in the 700 loop.

From Wilmington it takes us about 16 hours of driving + 2 fuel stops to the FW gate.

We leave very early in the morning and stop at the welcome to Florida rest area (about 12 hrs + any stops). There is a very large camper parking area at this one , get a few hours of sleep have some free OJ in the morning, get some Disney brocures (SP) for the kids and finish the drive in the morning. we usually arriving before check in time so I park in the overflow lot, head to Trails-End for lunch. pick out my site from the empty ones on the way back to check in. This works most of the time I get the site I want
As far as to long for the kids. Get a 12v dvd player (Wal-Mart has them with 2 screens very inexpensive)and bring lots of dvd's. if they have game-boys, PSP or something get them each a new game but don't give them out untill you are at least 2/3 of the way there.
They won't be nearly as tired as you are.

On the way home we are stopping at the South Petersburg Va KOA again 12 hrs from the FW gate.

We leave from Newark De. in the afternoon and we have stayed @ KOA in Enfield N.C. the Yogi Bear in Emporia Va. but that leaves a long drive the next day we have also used South of the Border, Bass Lake in Dillon S.C. and Swamp Fox just past SOB.

I second New Green Acres..! We stopped there on our way back to Ohio, and it was very nice. Very large pull through sites, easy on/off the highway at Exit 53, and very reasonable rates ($25). We came in on a Friday night afterhours and found our site info/envelope on the message board - dropped off $$ Saturday morn in the drop slot. It's about 360 miles from Disney...

I know it goes against the purpose of the vacation, but we found it's more time efficient to lodge for the night. The sooner we get to the FORT, the sooner momma's happy.:goodvibes. We leave from Levittown, PA just north of Philadelphia usually on Friday afternoon when the kids get out of school(on the road by 3:00). We travel to Southern NC(usually Lumberton area)to Northern SC(usually Florence). Roughly 500 miles +/-. Finish driving between 11:30 to 12 midnight. We try to lodge at a place that includes breakfast. Our first choice is usually HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS or HAMPTON INNS. We usually get a AAA booked room for about $74.00(a double/double). Two adults with 2 teenage sons with free breakfast bar:woohoo:
We usually get back on the road by 8:30AM and get to the FORT by 5:30 PM.
We tow a 22' TT. It's usually packed with bikes, gear, etc. and it's not worth re-arranging and re-packing to save the $50 bucks in our case.
Good luck with your trip and travel safe.
Mike
