Traveling from Gatwick to Heathrow

I am sitting here wondering how nervous it would make me if we traveled to Gatwick and then had to transfer to Heathrow for our connecting flight. Seems alot of flights I look at are set up like that now although last year we flew straight in to Gatwick with BA. I'm thinking there must be a bus or something and that it all goes smoothly but has anyone here done it? It's the morning and I'm sitting going nuts and in a panic thinking I have to go to Disney this year, I just have to!! Looking up flights and well, maybe we will go :goodvibes although chances are good that it won't be until 14 months!

Still love any opinions on this transfter though, thanks! :)

Oh yea, just saw my ticker, make that 15 months, almost 16 even :guilty: I don't see how I can wait I really don't :sad2:

There is a bus service between the two - strangely enough the service number is 747.

Or you can get trains, going via central London

Or you can get a taxi/minicab/limo service.

Whilst this might be fine on your outward journey. Do you really want to arrive in LGW after an overnight transatlantic flight and then schlepp round to LHR whilst tired and with all the luggage?

If the transfer is unavoidable, I would be tempted to use the bus service for the outbound journey and then damn the expense and use a taxi for the inbound.

Note that any major holdup on the M25 may lead to missed flights and unless 'ticketed through' on a single PNR, these will be your problem, not the airlines.

A word or warning, when we arrive at Gatwick we have to go past the heathrow turnoff to get home. Last year like Pat mentioned there was an accident, which is common for M25 rush hour and it took us 2 hours to get from Gatwick to the junction for Heathrow. I fyou do decide to do this look allow yourself plenty of time!

Thanks for the advice! I don't think it's such a good idea either if I can avoid it, and avoid it I am because right now we arn't booking anything . I did see upon closer inspection that the return was set up so that we flew into Manchester and then stayed there for our transfer so that was something anyway. Right now I am leaning more towards the Delta flight which transfers in Atlanta, however with that one we have to leave Disney at about 10am on our last day instead of the usual 2pm or so. Not as fun, but in the long run a better idea I'm sure!

Yep, ive done it....... on my own with 2 kids under 12 (one of them ADHD) in tow (oh yeah, and we had just came off a 9 hr flight from Orlando)!!
And guess what....... it was no problem!!!
Just give yourself plenty of time to get from A to B. The National Express coach picks up / drops off at every terminal in both airports, and the bus station at Heathrow. There is somone at Gatwick who will show you straight onto your bus so theres no chance of getting on the wrong one!!

Hope this makes you feel better! :)

It would seriously worry me - my DH picked me up from LGW one year (on the way back from a work trip) and an accident happened not 5 minutes behind him - when we came out of LGW the queue was back past 5 exits :sad2: :faint:

We decided against using Zoom to Canada after I read about people who flew out from LGW but got diverted to Stanstead on their way home - getting a coach all round the M25 then having to drive back along it in our car is NOT my idea of fun! We live quite near the M25 and sadly have many times been held up - especially during the holidays. :wave2:
