Traveling from AKL to Fort Wilderness

Hello, DH will be doing the Segway tour at Fort Wilderness on our upcoming trip. Although we'll have our car, we'd prefer to use Disney transportation. We are staying at AKL. I'm thinking the most efficient way would be to take a bus to MK and boat over to Fort Wilderness.

The tour starts at the backyard BBQ...is that within walking distance of the boat launch? If not, I think the other option is to take a bus to (and this is where I get fuzzy) MK or TTC and switch to a Fort Wilderness bus. But then I think we have to change buses again and go on an 'internal' bus route.

Would appreciate your thoughts. We need to be there by 8:15 a.m. Thanks!

The most effecient way would be to take the bus to MK, and the boat from there. However, I don't know how early MK opens your day. If you can get to the CR, they have a boat to FW. It's less than a 5 minute ride. I'd think with Chef Mickey at CR, there'd be a early Character breakfast bus. The monorail starts runing at 7am, which would get you to CR.

We spent a whole week at AKL, but we never went out that early.

I recommend using your car. We do that for our morning parks (except for MK), and in the evenings we use DTS. It's just so easy getting around the property that early, and you are relying on yourself instead of pacing at the bus stop.

Here is what you need to do. Take a bus to MK (they start running at 6:30 am). Tell the driver you are having breakfast at the Contemporary. The driver "may" be able to drop you directly at the Contemporary. If so, then take the launch from the Contemporary to Ft. Wilderness. It is a short walk to Mickey's Backyard Barbecue from the marina.

If the driver can't take you directly to the Contemporary, then walk to the Contemporary from MK.

(The boats to/from MK don't start till 8am.) The launches to/from the Contemporary start at 6:45 am.

If you decided to drive, then drive toward MK. As you go through the MK toll booth get in the FAR RIGHT lane (not the bus lane, but the one next to it), then watching for buses on the right, take an "immediate" right down the road to Ft. Wilderness. Go in the parking lot at the SECOND entrance, then walk over to the bus stop. Get on ANY bus that says SETTLEMENT (doesn't matter what color), then it's a short walk to the Backyard Barbecue area.
