DH and I are taking 4 year old grandson to WDW in Sept. for 3 days. When I call to use Sept. code tomorrow I am trying to decide which resort to try for. If rates are good enough I will try for CR or Poly on monorail for quick entrace and exits to MK & EPCOT so we can break in the middle of the day without too much time commuting. If rates are too high for my budet at these two what other resorts would you recommend with short commute times to MK and EPCOT. Have only stayed at campground and DD hotels prior to this trip. Can't wait to stay at a WDW Resort. Thanks for your help.:earsboy:

Hello Kansas!

You could try the Wilderness Lodge. The rates should be lower and while the boat trip isn't as fast as the monorail, it's not bad. For a five year old, the boat ride should be lots of fun!

I don't think the commute is much from any WDW resort but WL is the closest "non-monorail" resort to MK. You'd have the convenience of being close plus have a beautiful place to stay!

WL is a beautiful resort...and alot less $ than CR and Poly! The boat ride only takes 5 minutes to MK!

And you can take the little boat from WL to the Contemporary and then get on the monorail.

After much researching I made reservations this morning at AKL. I kept reading reviews here from people saying the buses from WL were not great and not terribly dependable timewise some of the times. Since I have always wanted to stay at AKL I decided to give it a try. I know it is a little more remote than some, but the buses go directly to/from the parks. Thank you for all of your input though. I know that we will have a great time no matter where we stay...after all we are in WDW!

as I was reading this thread I was thinking gee, she would love the AKL. We have stayed there twice and despite what a few people have posted here about long bus rides we have never experienced that to be the case.
You are in for a truly magical stay. Enjoy!

Just a few notes on travel times for Monorail resorts:

To get to Epcot, you need to go to the Transportation and Ticket Center and switch trains. For the Contemporary, you could wait 5 mins for a train, another 5 mins to get to the TTC, wait 10 minutes for the Epcot train, and another 10 minutes to get there, so it could take up to a half hour... possibly longer to get back, since the train goes around the other way. So really, its quicker to take the bus from any other resort.

Also, for CR -> MK via monorail can take 15 minutes, or more... which really is about the same time as via bus from any other resort.

The bottom line is this, though...

Will an extra 5 minutes really make THAT much of a difference? In reality, no, it really won't. So, always go with the resort theming you want, and don't worry about if it will be an extra 5 minutes... :)
