so i just got accepted and decided i was going to come up on may 19th... i am very excited!
but of course now i don't know how i am going to travel from one place to the next with my stuff.
i plan on flying. i am debating right now on whether i should come up the night before and stay in a hotel or come up that day. what is everyone else doing?

and does anyone know what kind of transportation i can take (taxi, bus, etc) and how much that is going to cost

I am flying from Chicago the morning of the 19th, the earliest flight I could find. I plan on taking the Mears Shuttle from the airport in Orlando, and I think it's about $20, but I'd have to double-check that.

When I was a CP I brought my car with me, but 3 of my roommates flew down. They just brought what they needed for about the first 2 weeks (sheets, towels, about a weeks worth of clothes- casual and business casual, alarm clock) and shipped all the rest of their stuff via UPS. One of my roommates from Wisconsin had a desktop computer that she arranged to come down with a schoolmate in his car about 2 weeks later. Keep in mind that you are limited in the amount and weight of bags you can check, and that many airlines are charging hefty fees if you excede these limits. Also, limiting the amout of stuff you bring with you will make it much easier for you during check-in.

Me and my dad are flying down on May 20th.

My daughter checks in on August 11th so we are flying down on the 9th and staying in a hotel. She will only bring the absolute necessities from home she needs and as far as towels, bedding, toiletries etc., I am going to get that stuff down there. I will have 2 days to get that done. We will go to Target or Walmart there. My husband and I will stay until the 14th for a little R&R before flying back home. :thumbsup2

I check in on august 20th. i plan to fly down on the 19th, get a room and a one day ticket at a disney resort and just chill out before it all begins. I'm shipping my stuff ahead of time to my resort and I'll just bring it all with me when i take a taxi to vista. Of course, i still have 4 months to change my plans.

I'm checking in on the 20th, too, and I'm still working out my plans, but I'm looking at an 8am flight on the same day.

do you know if that is something you have to book before time or can i just show up on that day to use it?

I am pretty sure it has to be booked in advance. Better to be safe then sorry.

Here's what they say on the Mears site:
Shuttle services can be purchased on-line in conjunction with transportation from Orlando International Airport. Your attraction transportation tickets will be waiting for you at any of our locations at Orlando International Airport.

And here's the site:

Hope this helps, you can make reservations right on the site!

(When you pick your destination location, Vista Way Apartments is one of the choices!)

I put in my info, and round trip is $32 and one-way is $19

i just got accepted a week ago, i wish i had thought to do it online and apply earlier, but at least i caught it before it was filled.
and i wish i lived 45 minutes away. for me it's a 24 hour drive, my car can't make it that far, that's for sure.

When I went, I drove. It allowed me to take more stuff with me. But with gas prices the way they are now I'd be more prone to pick the plane over the car.

I'm flying in on the 19th and have chosen to stay at the resorts. The benefit to this is they have the Magical Express available for resort guests. I hand my bags over at the airport and they magically appear in my room a few hours after arrival.
I figure I might as well make it easier on myself. Of course I was in a bind when trying to figure out how to get from resort to apartment and have chose to rent a car for two days. Alamo offers discounts to CMs and I can take advantage of the resort bus to get me over to pick up the car.
It does mean i have to spend a little cash, but evens out with convenience over paying for a cab. Plus then I have the option to grocery shopping and not have to rely on the bus.
