Has anyone purchased the travel insurance offered to DVC? Looks like it's $89 and good for year. Just wondering if anyone has experience with it and what your thoughts are.
Thanks for your input!

We just recently returned from our first DVC trip. We purchased the DVC insurance a month or so before our trip since we both had elderly parents in declining states of health and were worried that we may need to cancel. My mother-in-law did pass away 4 days after we returned home and her funeral is tomorrow.

Thank you for the reply. I'm so very sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and your family

I've purchased it for several years now. Luckily I've never had to use it but the peace of mind is worth it for me just in case. :goodvibes

Does purchasing travel insurance through DVC also cover the cost of non-refundable flights??

I am about to find out how this works. Just canceled today. When I called Travelex I asked if we get the total cost of the ticket refunded or if we only get the "change fee" refunded and keep the balance of the ticket cost as an airline voucher. I was sent this form:

So it sounds like I should cancel with the airline and get a voucher for the ticket, less the change fee. I submit the document above, which assigns the voucher to Travelex, and Travelex will refund the entire cost of the airline tickets. There is other documentation to complete as well, including a rather long physician's statement. I will post a new thread when this whole process is complete. I know that there are frequent questions about the value of the DVC insurance and some DVCers will be interested to know what happens when you actually have a claim.

Thanks Jekjones1558. Looking forward how this works out. I have two trips planned for this winter, coming from New England I'm worried about snow and ice for December and February. Sorry you had to cancel your trip, so disappointing

Travelex does not cover pre-existing conditions if a family member is in poor/preexisting condition health and something happens it will most likely not be covered.

The cost is 89.00 per UY (the points you are using to travel with if more then one year of points you will need additional policies) airline tickets are covered but it is interesting what Jean just put PP because what if you could not use the travel voucher since most expire, then would you get full value of ticket, since it is non refundable to begin with? Travelex was great answering my questions when I called I would suggest calling them directly. I did get the insurance but got some bad information from DVC rep. once I clarified with Travelex I cancelled. I was getting the insurance because of my FIL who has cancer (has had it for 5 years) but was told it most likely would not be covered if something happened to him. Good luck

When I signed up for the DVC travel insurance, I received an e-mail with a link to a Description of Coverage (located here: travelexinsurance. com/static/SDVC_0201_00000.pdf) which states the following:

Pre-existing condition means an illness, disease, or other condition during the 60 day period immediately prior to your effective date for which You or your Traveling Companion, Domestic Partner, Business Partner or Family Member scheduled or booked to travel with you:
1. received or received a recommendation for a diagnostic test, examination or medical treatment; or
2. took or received a prescription for drugs or medicine.

Item (2) of this definition does not apply to a condition which is treated or controlled solely through the taking of prescription drugs or medicine and remains treated or controlled without any adjustment or change in the required prescription throughout the 60 day period before coverage is effective under this Policy.

Reading this definition of 'pre-existing condition', I interpreted the policy to cover me since my mother-in-law was not traveling with me.

Does anyone know if I would have been covered so that I'll know whether or not to purchase the insurance for my next trip?
