Hi,

Has anyone booked independent travel insurance rather than through the TA???

If so, could you recommend one or advise what I need to look out for please?

We are doing 12 days WDW and 3 day disney cruise nov '15.

Thanks in advance x

just done a few of my family sil and family and my own parents with staysure as they were coming up the cheapest for them. We use Go which are lined to the aa due to complex medical requirements.

Must be 15+ years ago I used a TA for travel insurance.
The reason I stopped using the TA was they sent me a renewal but they also included the letter from the insurer. They were being charged £99 but then charging me £149. I went direct to the website and bypassed the TA and paid £79.
Never used a TA for insurance since.

I have just renewed ours with AA travel insurance. A new policy would have been £168 less 18% Quidco= £138 but the renewal offered 25% off so was only £125.

There are cheaper out there, I am happy with AA cover and they also include existing medical condition. Make sure you are covered for all you need, don't just go for cheapest policy.

I never book mine through a TA for similar reasons to those Wayne has stated. I have used AXA, Direct Travel (several times) and for this trip Columbus Direct was unbeatable with a whopping 30% cashback on top of an already great deal. You have to shop around and make sure that your evaluation includes adequate cover as well as good price, so I wouldn't stick to one brand and refuse to consider others. If the reviews are good, the cover suits me and the price is one I'm happy with, I'm happy.

Hi,
As above but make certain that what ever policy you buy includes cover for Cruises as some don't due to the high cost of getting passengers from ship to hospital in the event of an emergency.

I never use TA insurance. With my bank I have travel insurance for hubby and I. My daughter has an annual insurance from the post office and my son has to have All Clear as he has complex medical condition, heart gave up at 16, now has defrib fitted.

Have a look at Moneysavingexpert - they often recommend, or you can find people on their forums who do.

I have also used Direct Travel and found them great - although didn't need to claim. I can't use them for our trip next year as they won't cover so far out so have used Flexi Travel - hopefully they will be OK. It is very comprehensive cover - let's face it, Orlando holidays are not the cheapest, often booked way in advance, and as there are 6 of us going, it's costing a fair bit, a 'normal' £5k limit cancellation insurance wasn't going to cut the mustard. I also opted to go for no excess on the policy - have heard of so many people being stung for small claims, where basically by the time they paid the excess, it's hardly worth them claiming, so they don't bother!

I used Direct Travel (and would have again if I could) because they were one of the only insurers that paid out after the ash cloud incident a few years back - most insurers jumped on the 'any excuse not to pay' bandwagon but apparently DT were very good - got this off MSE btw.

I don't use TA insurance either. I look for the best deal and this time it was with my bank Nationwide, you auto get National, annual, personal insurance on your Flex account (no annual charge for the account). So I upgraded it to family/worldwide for £50. Luckily none of us have any health problems so that was the flat rate price, a good cover though.

Can anyone advise me how much is average please.
We have 2 adults 2 children on a 11 day disney holiday followed by 3 day disney cruise.
Thanks, don want to overpay!

I have just renewed with AA for £126. There are cheaper out there but just make sure you are covered for everything. For example(if it hasn't changed) AA single trip insurance doesn't cover cruises but their Annual policy does. even the same companies offer different levels.
Check Quidco or topcashback for cachback

we just renewed our annual policy with Virgin Money. It was £130. I am sure we could have got this cheaper but can't be bothered with all the health questions/declarations with new insurers. I am not sure I'd have saved very much though. I can't remember the last time I ever used a TA for this.:goodvibes

I get mine through my bank account as part of the charge for the account (which is cheaper than most holiday insurance polices that would be suitable and has other freebies included). It's worth looking into. Does depend on income.

Feel free to try my website... http://carinsurance4u.co.uk/travel-insurance/1775079

I would guess off top of my head about £130 for you all on an annual 12 month policy worldwide cover ...

As many say standard cover will not cover cruises and don't buy on price alone some policies are so basic and you need good cover in the US... All our policies are with AXA a massive insurer worldwide
