Walt Disney Studios Tour

I can't remember the name of the two stores. One is called something like the company store and the other is something like an employee store. Which ever one is in the back is the one that is supposedly only open M-F. I thought we went there on our Saturday tour, but at the Wish event last month, they said it was only open M-F. Maybe that was just an easy thing to tell people.
The bigger store in the front is the Studio Store.

The smaller one in the back you mentioned is the employee store. I think this one is only open M-F unless you're on the Saturday tour with D23. So you're probably right it's just easier to tell people M-F only.

Thanks! I'm glad I wasn't imagining things. I thought we went there on our tour. During the 100th Gala, it was closed. We peeked in the window and I saw a cool shirt with picture of the water tower. When we went back for the Wish event, I was disappointed that the store wasn't open.

That water tower shirt must have sold well to people on D23 tours because when I went to the Mickey's of Glendale shopping event last month, they had a spirit jersey and a bunch of new merchandise with the water tower on it.

Oh wow...there wasn't any water tower merch in February! We would have bought some of those. During our tour pretty much all D23 specific merch were half off, and some 100th anniversary merch were also 50% off.
That shopping event was sold out fast! Glad you were able to go!

I don’t know if I would bank on getting a tour in August around D23. A few years ago I redeemed a Studio tour through the movie rewards program and wanted to do it at the same time I was going out for D23 Expo but they told me they shut down tours around Expo as they needed everyone to get ready for Expo. I don’t know if that will be the case but just be prepared for it I guess.

I recently did the tour again, this time booked through D23 and it was great. I went on a Saturday and the Studio store and employee store were open for us.

This is the Lucasfilm entry. I know it's not that interesting, but I didn't want to get myself or the guide in trouble. The guide did say this was ok. Note that the main location of Lucasfilm is in San Fransciso. The person in the pic was the employee that the guide started up a conversation with.

They will sell out fast for dates around the Ultimate Fan Event.
Hooray! I will be on it.
Do you know if one can park at the studio?

I believe gold duo means you can bring up to 3 guests, so as long as one of you has the gold duo, I don't see why not.

Please note, that although the tickets and emails that you get say you need to bring and show proof of D23 membership, they never asked us when we most recently went. YMMV.

DH and I did it as part of an ABD trip, but this time I'm taking my mother to Disneyland, it'll be her first time ever, and I want to do this tour with her as the kind of icing on the cake! Plus, the ABD version doesn't go into Walt's office.
I've done both ABD and D23 tours, and I do think the D23 tour is better for two reasons:

1) Walt's office
2) Smaller group

I am not sure if it's normal, but for my most recent D23 studio tour, it was just me and my son, plus one other family of 4.

The only advantage the ABD tour has is that you visit and eat at the commissary if you consider that an advantage :)

Does anyone know if you have a Gold Duo membership, can you buy 4 tickets for the tour?
The terms say each Gold member can only buy 2 tickets at the Gold price. But I think with Gold Duo, you have two Gold Members. Just make sure you each have your logins ready. Then you can buy 2 tickets with one, then the third with the other.

You're going to have a wonderful time! We did the tour in January and it was great! I also spent way too much money in the employee store on merchandise after the tour.

Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll have sold out of a lot of stuff since mine is the last tour of the day 😆

I'm hoping for tours in November! I joined D23 as a general member but am considering upgrading to the gold. We live too far from CA to go to any of the events, plus have DVC so already get discounts on food and merch at the parks. Are there other reasons to upgrade?
