I think it's better to pay a little more and be happy with your level of cover than get a cheap comparison website cover and then find out it's not worth the paper it's written on!
My m&s policy has independent traveller cover on it and the policy wording says if I've bought the cover before there is an event that is publicly known about which will result in delay or cancellation I will be covered so that's a relief. I'm just glad I always buy my insurance as soon as I've booked a trip. I can imagine there will be a whole lot of policies bought in the next week because if this and there may be disappointment if they want to claim!
I'll have to check with the travel guys tomorrow when u go into work to see if there has been an
increase of policies!

I normally take out a policy as soon as I book but as we needed to get one that would cover both our family WDW holiday and our DD's New York trip we left it until about 90 days out and bought an M&S annual one that included independent traveller cover for our cruise that was booked separately to our package. Until we were insured I was worried sick that something dreadful would happen to one of us and we would end up losing our VH deposit which was £600.

Well at least you got there safely. And at least you bought insurance! Also a good job you were an early riser on that day! I suspect many people don't bother to purchase
