Travel Insurance

I think it's better to pay a little more and be happy with your level of cover than get a cheap comparison website cover and then find out it's not worth the paper it's written on!
My m&s policy has independent traveller cover on it and the policy wording says if I've bought the cover before there is an event that is publicly known about which will result in delay or cancellation I will be covered so that's a relief. I'm just glad I always buy my insurance as soon as I've booked a trip. I can imagine there will be a whole lot of policies bought in the next week because if this and there may be disappointment if they want to claim!
I'll have to check with the travel guys tomorrow when u go into work to see if there has been an
increase of policies!

I did last holiday :scared: I normally take out a policy as soon as I book but as we needed to get one that would cover both our family WDW holiday and our DD's New York trip we left it until about 90 days out and bought an M&S annual one that included independent traveller cover for our cruise that was booked separately to our package. Until we were insured I was worried sick that something dreadful would happen to one of us and we would end up losing our VH deposit which was £600.

is anyone else like me, that does not buy the travel insurance as soon as booked, and doing just before paying the main bulk - stupid eh

Actually I don't think you need it until you have paid a significant amount of money to the travel company/companies. Now bear in mind that "significant" is a very relative term and no two people will have the same figure in mind .... This is the first time I have not booked insurance with my trip. I paid the deposit and I figured that is all I would lose if I cancelled or it was cancelled for some reason. For now anyway. As it comes closer I will ensure that I have good cover in place once penalty charges start to apply.

I actually forgot to buy my insurance last year for my trip as I kept putting it off and putting it off and I only remembered in the wee hours when I woke up the first morning after checking in at Disney! :sad2:

Thankfully I had my laptop so I jumped on there and got a policy from the room :o

I don't recommend leaving it as late as me ;)

:rotfl2: Well at least you got there safely. And at least you bought insurance! Also a good job you were an early riser on that day! I suspect many people don't bother to purchase travel insurance, hoping for the best. I would never risk it. IMO, if you have insurance things are less likely to go wrong ;)

I like it for peace of mind for sure. It certainly wasn't intentional but I should know better by now because I have an appalling memory sometimes, hehe.

It would hurt my pocket and I'd whine like crazy, but ultimately I could live if I lost my money from a flight or room as that's paid for anyhow - if I had an accident or illness though...the medical expenses are what really scare me! :scared1:

No kidding! In the US - there is a reason why they all make sacrifices to pay for medical insurance. Medical is mostly private there and it shows in the bills. Even if it's something minor, you pay a consultation fee just to be called into the doctor's office!
