 I'm in the process of booking our first DIY Florida trip... flights and hotel are booked, car hire is about to be... what about travel insurance?

Can someone recommend a nice cheap company that I can buy on the internet from.

Cheers guys

Tesco is pretty cheap. Do you get it with your bank? Ive paid for insurance the last couple of years and it was only last week that I remembered that I get it free from my bank!

I would certainly shop around as what insurance company can offer me may not be able to give you a good deal & visa versa, Having said that me & df have an annual policy with EGG, got it last Oct to cover a quickie trip to DLP & 2 weeks in WDW next Oct. As luck would have it we are both having another weekend away aswell so worked out great

Definitely check if you get it already from your bank. We have it included with our HSBC premier account.

Be careful with that though as often you have to have used the account to pay for the holiday, esp if it is a credit card perk!

Thanks guys - I've seen a few quotes around for about 60 quid for the both of us - I tried to apply through Norwich union direct and was told I needed to phone up... seemed a pretty standard request - I hate phoning the call centres as they always try to sell you something else!

Has anyone had to claim? I suppose that's the measure of a decent insurance policy!

We had to claim, from M&S, last year.

A flight delay of 36 hours (M&S pay £20 each, for each 12 hour delay) and medical expenses when we had to get antibiotics for DD's ear.
The cheque arrived before the week was out :thumbsup2

In comparison, on a separate occasion, Churchill took about 5 weeks, and numerous letters and phonecalls to get back the cost of a trip to the medical centre and a bottle of antibiotics :(

Not had to claim from anyone else fortunately :sunny:

Looks like the cost for M&S is around £46 for a single trip and £116 annual for a couple with no excess to pay on a claim:

If your using money saving expert.com. Make sure you read the small print of the insurance before you buy. I purchased one last year, that did not include hurrican cover. Luckily I was within 14 days of realising the error, so i got my money back.

I purchased another policy through those recommended on the moneysaving site, that was underwritten by AXA.
