TRAVEL INSURANCE THROUGH DCL- WORTH IT?

I always buy insurance. I never buy from DCL.

Mom has a heart condition so we buy insurance primarily to be covered in case there's need for medical evacuation. Having had friends who have required this we know all to well the outrageous cost associate with medical evac when outside the US. The peace of mind in paying for travel insurance is well worth it.

We use Allianz. It is who my TA recommends. She's the friend who needed evac when she had a stroke on a trip. She had Allianz and they handled everything beautifully. She's actually done some video testimonials for them about her experience.

I buy the Classic plan for us. They a basic plan as well.

If you have any preexisting medical conditions you need to buy within 14 days of making first deposit on your trip with Allianz. Other agencies may have slightly different timing, but its usually not much of a grace period from first deposit on the trip.

I have both our trips insured through Disney but am thinking I may just drop that and go this route (travel insurance compare) and get it privately. But do you include flights in the "total cost" it asks for or just the cruise portion? I'm wondering because our trip in February we are definitely insuring because colorado can get some major snow and the airport closes so we would never be able to just "drive" there if the plane cant leave.

We always cover non-refundable items and get insurance that covers costs if you have to cut your trip short for certain reasons including covering the costs of flying home early. Both DH and I have insurance from work that covers medical costs so we don't need to purchase more for that. Since, on our next trip, we can cancel the car rental 24 hours before, we don't include that in the insurance.

There really isn't anything that would stop me from going on this trip.

A car accident? Falling down the stairs and breaking a leg? Airline pilot strike? Snow storm/volcano eruption (nearly delayed a trip a few years ago for us)? And that's just what can happen to prevent you from going on the trip. Then there's what can happen when you're there. For me, that's often the more important reason to get insurance. While one may be willing to write off the cost of the trip if something happens, the costs of getting home due to sudden medical or other issues can sometimes cost much more than the original trip.

Buying insurance or self-insuring is a decision that each person has to make each time they take a trip, taking into account personal circumstances, the cost of the trip, and the cost of insurance, but you also have to consider the unforeseen and the potential costs that might be incurred as a side effect, not just the loss of the original price of the trip. The type, features and cost of the insurance will typically dictate who you buy from, whether DCL or someone else.

We always self insure our trips, but that is because I really don't want the piece of mind that comes with buying insurance. My mind is always in pieces and I've learn to live with it and have a C'est la vie attitude about life.
