Has anyone had to cancel their trip and have points reimbursed? Is the process difficult? Could you rebook with those points? Was the cost reasonable?

The travel insurance is a pretty poor deal. You are only covered for barely the dues on the points.

"rebook" woth those points? I was under the impression that the only way the travel insurance paid was if you lost the points.

O.K., I am totally confused as I thought when DVC endorsed the Travel Guard insurance that you would get the points returned to you if you had to cancel. Why else would you buy it?
Can you buy trip insurance using the rack rate for the DVC rooms you book as the amount of coverage?

No, the insurance pays you $5 per point, you don't get the points back. So for a 150 point reservation, you would get reimbursed $750. The original cost of the insurance is 5% of the reimbursement, in this case $37.50. This is as per the flyer I got with the reservation I made in October. I really don't think it's worth it unless you are booking a trip close to the end of your use year. You must buy it before the "penalty period" which I assume is 30 days prior.

I've bought travel insurance on regular rooms in the past, they cover your lost deposit (usually 1 night rate). I don't think you could buy it this way for DVC because you would have to show your deposit paid.

hmmm..........we are cruising, so if we had to cancel we would be out of luck, because I don't think you can get your points returned to you in that situation. I will have to call ms to find out the what if's. Thanks DebbieB.
