so for the first time we are doing the last full week in August. We are handcuffed with school as DD is getting into 6th grade so taking her out of school is getting harder. So we are just wondering about the weather mainly the heat. We have only done early May and October/November before. Just looking for tips and other peoples expearences we are in blt so easy access to MK.

We were there last August! Expect 90s for sure! Afternoon thunder showers are common as well. Hit the parks at rope drop, lots of water, spray bottles or frog toggs around your neck. Cool off at the pool after lunch and hit the parks again in the evening!

We've always gone the end of July - August (along with an occasional spring break or winter trip). It's hot at home and it's hot there. We've always been tied to not only summer break as we never took DS out of school for trips beyond 1st grade but also to summer swim team schedule which limited us to basically August vacations. It's totally doable as long as you don't go with an attitude that you're going to be miserable before you ever go. It's nice that the points drop in mid-August as a lot of the southern schools go back by then. We freeze waters to bring to the parks and try to do our share of indoor activities / rides with A/C. You'll be pretty much guaranteed an afternoon T-storm most days which may or may not pass quickly. That's also always a good time to do a long standby line for a ride like Soar'in that's indoors and cool…OR to eat at an indoor spot OR a good time to go to DQ if you're so inclined. We keep radar apps on our phones and if they look like they'll be super prolonged we go back to the resort and grab naps. We also usually take a break for the pool in the afternoon (although you won't be alone as that's a popular plan). We also have spray fan bottles in our Owners Locker and we usually plan at least 1 water park day (which we don't usually do in the off-season when it's cooler).

Thanks for the info we just want to be prepared we have a studio can that freeze water in the mini fridge? my plan was 9-1ish then 5ish to night time.

You have a good plan. Let me tell you though, I live here and we avoid WDW in July/August cause it's just too hot for us. Take it slow and make sure to drink double what you normally would. Even if you aren't thirsty. If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated. Get the free water from counter service and bring some drink sticks. We carry water bottles with us when we go normally so this works well. CS water is not tap water but through the soda fountain system. Dress lightly and bring extra undies. You will get soaked from sweat and there's nothing worse than wet undies in the heat. LOL Also not sure if it could be an issue but for those people who chafe in the heat, get runners glide sticks or even extra deodorant and swipe some on your thighs. This will prevent rubbing of your legs in the heat and sweat keeping the rashing to a minimum. Lots of people forget to do that.

Thanks for the info I was wondering about brining extra clothes for mid day changes. Also what are the crowds like that last week. Touring plans have them lightening up as we get deeper in the month.

I have been to Disney every month but March. For a 7-10 day vacation, the end of August is my favorite. And I hate the heat. With the exception of AK, the parks have plenty of air conditioning. Crowds are really low. The evening extra magic hours are not overly crowded. We are NOT morning people, but did fine with the heat. However, we were AP holders, so we could park hop, and that seemed to help. That also gave us the ability to go to AK on the coolest predicted day. One thing that you can count on (no matter the time of year because we had it happen right before Christmas last year) is that the parks will be EMPTY after a rainstorm. Walk-on empty. We are water drinkers by nature, so we would get the ice water from CS places. If at all possible, wear quick dry clothes. Especially shorts and unders.

All of the outdoor and / or water rides will shut down if there's thunder & lightening so people all go to indoor rides or leave the parks. It's great timing if you're able to wait it out and then jump back into line as soon as they open them back up.:thumbsup2

We have visited in August quite a bit. The heat is a definite challenge for me. I pare my daily preparation down to the basics. I wear as little makeup as possible; just a moisturizer with a smidge of color that has a high SPF factor (freckled redhead here!) & mascara. I make sure to keep hydrated (water w/ some Crystal Light) and use the weather as a good excuse to eat ice cream or Dole Whip! I carry Cool Off citrus towelettes to stay relatively fresh and cool and carrying a personal fan/mister helps too. Freezing a few washcloths and carrying in a zip lock bag works well also. It is very tempting to eat all the wonderful foods, but we've found it helps a lot to eat lightly -sandwiches, salads, yogurt, fruit (did I mention ice cream?). A/C is your best friend. Duck into those attractions when you hit a low (but pack a light sweater..I know - counterintuitive - but some of them can be positively arctic!). Keep an eye on others in your group who might have a tendency to overdo it; the heat and humidity can do a number on you if you don't pace yourself.

We are going the end of August prior to the MC, and I am dreading it. :( We will be at BLT so I figure we will hop to the MK for a few hours and then go to the pools. I will definitely enjoy going back to the resort! :worship:
