DH says the idea of DVC makes him feel trapped into going to Disney every year. I explained how you can go other places too, but he's still leery of the idea. He loves Disney as much as I do, but he's concerned. Any advice?
DH and I have woven WDW into our lives so that we know we are going every year regardless. Buy the time the trip rolls around a year later he is excited. We don't feel trapped because we now own at a resort which has so many more activities than a value or moderate, IMHO. For the first time last year we didn't feel rushed, actually enjoyed heading back to our resort, and enjoyed just being there....we didn't know that would happen. I think when you own DVC you don't do "commando" as much anymore. My DH loves photography. He spends his own time roaming around AK and the resort without me and then we meet up later. One morning at 5 am (like the commercial, I was too excited to sleep) so got up, got dressed, went to the lobby at Kidani and spent an hour watching the sun come up over the savannah.Perhaps a different approach: buy fewer points with a goal of visiting Disney Vacation Club resorts at WDW, Disneyland, Vero Beach, Hilton Head or Hawaii ... ever other year??DH says the idea of DVC makes him feel trapped into going to Disney every year.
Have you guys ever stayed at one of the Deluxe resorts? We hadn't only values and one trip to POFQ. I would rent points from a member and let him "experience Disney Deluxe". Then you both could decide together if it is good idea. Like I said after our first trip, my DH no longer has concerns about our purchase.Hmmm. Trapped!?! How does he feel about marriage?

There are enough activities and DVC locations that we don't feel as if we have to go to the parks every year. I could be perfectly satisfied stayng at AKV for a whole week and never leave the lodge. And to a degree he's correct. Using DVC for non Disney trips is not a good plan. I'd suggest either renting from an owner for now or trying a smaller package. Either way owning essentially the number of points (with a small cushion of 10-20%) you'll use at DVC resorts is the ideal approach.DH says the idea of DVC makes him feel trapped into going to Disney every year.
