OK, here's the problem we had last time. We rented a mid-size vehicle (four adults), but the luggage barely fit in!! We ended up carrying some on our laps on the way to the hotel, and it was even worse on the way back to the airport.

This trip, there will be five adults. A full-size car would be fine for day-to-day transportation, but we're concerned about the amount of luggage that would fit into the trunk. We're considering just renting a mini-van . . . . .and just absorbing the extra cost. A possible alternative would be to have one or two people use a taxi; it would probably be cheaper in the long run, but would be an added nuisance. (We're staying at a time-share this trip).

Anyone care to share any thoughts/experiences about this???

The mini-vans do not hold that much luggage either. We are a family of 5 and had a friend along so that made 6. We rented a mini-van for our trip from MCO to the Disney cruise terminal. We just barely fit all the luggage in. We had luggage piled up on laps as you did.

This time we are renting a large 10-15 passenger van from Budget and hoping all the luggage will fit. Since there are 11 of us traveling this time, we can use the space for the luggage.

My personal opinion is just a vehicle that you can all fit comfortably fit in for the "normal" driving that you would be doing. If you are like us it seems that you are taking everything except the kitchen sink so you will have alot of "stuff". But you have to remember you are only driving fully loaded to and from the airport. so it is only a small fraction of time that you would be cramped uip. I would just go for the most affordable vehicle that would fit my daily traveling needs, but hey that is just me I would ride on top of the car for the chance to go WDW.

I'm not trying to rude, but if you can't fit the luggage in the trunk, you're probably REALLY overpacking.

We just went skiing, originally,we had rented a mini van for 4 adults,at the last minute, another couple decided to join us.So, we had six adults for a total of 15 bags!!! We were able to fit all bags and even though we did put a few bags in between the seats there were no lap bags and the adults were very comfortable for the two hours ride to our resort.

What is the difference in price between the full car and the minivan?? Dollar has pretty good deals, look around to see what you can find. After doing some "research" on our last trip to orlando,we had an suv and our friends had a full car and we paid $15 less and we were way more comfortable than them.:p

We are a family of 4 and have this problem all the time. A "FULL SIZE car is really NOT. We have 3 med/large bags plus 3 carry-ons and it is hard to fit them into the car ( Ford Taurus) .

Now a lot of the airlines have put weight limits on the bags, so you really need more bags that weight less. I bought a duffle bags without wheels, it is MUCH easier to make it fit in the trunk.
With the new weight limits we are leaving are biggest bag at home and will do with a few less items.
The drive from the airport to WDW is not that bad, but we head down to FLL most of the time and the 3 hours ride is difficult.

Bottom line take less . We are DVC members so we just do an extra load of laundry, hope this helps
