WHAT IS THE ABSOLUTE QUICKEST WAY TO GET FROM POFQ TO MK OR EPCOT?:confused

(WITH THE LEAST AMOUNT OF WALKING)

Unless I'm misunderstanding the question, there's only 2 ways to get to any of the parks from POFQ. You can either drive your own car or take the bus. I've always used Disney transportation, so I'm not sure if driving would save time.

There's only 1 bus stop at FQ and the bus will take you right to MK or Epcot ( or HS or AK for that matter.)

The only other transportation from French Quarter is the boat to Downtown Disney.

LGH I'm going to move this to the transportation board. You got the only answer i can think of from the other poster but maybe someone will have another on that board

Well, there's one other way that may be faster to Epcot- taxi. If you call front desk they could have one waiting, but a taxi probably wouldn't be fastest to MK, unless you had the taxi drop off at Contemporary. Then it's a toss up, and you'd have to walk to MK from there. For MK, only WDW buses can drop off near park - so it's mostly always fastest to take bus to MK. It's even faster than driving, since to drive you have to also take monorail.

For Epcot, it's a toss up between driving your own car (or arranged taxi) and taking the bus. It depends where you park, how long you wait for bus.

The bus ofr POFQ sometimes loops around POR, and sometimes not - during peak times of teh day it does not loop POR.

Taxi's drop off at the MK in the handicapped parking lot. It is just a short walk or about 75 feet to the ticket counters and than the monorail to the MK.

Thank you

The above is misleading because the taxis actually drop off at the TTC (Transportation and Ticket Center) - NOT the MK. THe TTC and MK are NOT the same. Taxis actually drop off in the short term TTC drop-off /Pick-up parking lot.

Unfortunately, many think the TTC and the MK are the same and this leads to a lot of confusion.

The above is a prime example - If the taxis drop off at the MK, then why would one need to take the monorail to the MK as the OP states?

The taxis drop off at the handicapped parking area. The drop off is labeled as that, not the TTC. you are right you have to walk through the TTC to the monorails. However taxi drop-off and pick-up is conducted in the handicapped parking lot.

If you have your own car:

Take a the Disney Bus to MK and take your own car to Epcot.

If not, Bus to MK and I like the taxi idea to Epcot.

What you refer to is the short term parking lot (30 min. limit) for PU/DO - there is no handicapped parking at the TTC where this short term lot is located and this lot is the same lot where taxis are available.

Many of the transport operators who have been around for a long time know that area, you call short term, as the Handicap parking lot. If you tell passengers you will pick them up in the Handicapped parking area they will know where it is.

I was just looking through the inter net and the sites I went on to all described the handicapped parking as the place I think the op may be describing as the short term parking lot.

The fastest is going to be by cab...no need to go get your car, then drive to the park, then park the car, and then go to the park entrance.
I usually budget about 40 mins to get from my resort room to a park entrance using the Disney buses.

Not true. The taxis drop off and pick up in the drop off lot at the TTC. The HC lot is on the other side of Seven Seas Drive and is a lot farther away than the drop off lot. This lot is short term parking (30 minute or less) and is just opposite the ticket booths.

At Epcot the taxis drop off and pickup in the bus loop 1-8

At Studios, taxis drop off and pickup in the parking lot opposite from the charter lot

At DAK, taxis drop off and pickup at the HC / charter lot.

The TTC is arranged somewhat like a park entrance. Except there are no turnstiles (there are wide swinging gates) and the only "attractions" are the monorails and ferry.

People come up to it from the various lots and drop off areas in the same fashion as they would come up to a real park entrance such as at Epcot and the amount of time consumed to that point is about the same.

OT and long long time ago, back when some computer systems operated in all capitals: I actually created a chat room program. It had both capital and lowercase captions and prompts but I always typed in all caps. Two other persons created competing chat rooms, Theirs had captions and prompts in all capitals while they typed using both caps and lowercase, the way people used "typewriters" then and how most of us use computers now.

I am still a little confused.:confused3 But thanks to all who answered. I have been to all the parks many times but have always taken the bus or the monorail.

This year, I have had some knee surgery and I need to cut some of the walking time if possible. I will have to use a scooter in the parks. Just making it that far has me a little concerned.:upsidedow

Could I take a cab to one of the resorts on the monorail line and then just get on the monorail there? This would be a lot closer wouldn't it? I probably will have breakfast at CR or Poly at least once. I know the bus to MK & Epcot lets you off a long way from the parks entrance so there is a lot of walking there.

As far as the AK & HS, would a cab let me off closer to the entrance than the bus?

Any other tips will be appreciated:)

You might want to look into renting a scooter from one of the off-site places. That way, you don't have to worry about how far you will walk and whether or not there will be scooters left to rent once you get there.
You will find more information about renting in the disABILITIES FAQs thread.

The Epcot buses are quite a walk to the park entrance. As cranbiz pointed out, the taxi stop is by bus loop 1-8, so the walk from the buses and taxis at Epcot will be about the same (a fair distance).

To get to MK, it would work to take the monorail from CR or Poly, but there will be a certain amount of walking to get from where the taxi leaves you off at the resort to get to the monorail station at the resort.
ALSO, once you get to MK, there is a VERY steep ramp that goes down from the 'higher-than-second-floor' monorail station to the ground. If you plan to leave the park and get a taxi from one of the MK area resorts, you would need to walk up that steep ramp to get from ground level up to the monorail station. The monorail station at TTC has the same type of very steep walkway, so I would not recommend taking the monorail from TTC either. There is not an elevator at either the TTC or MK monorail station.
If you go to TTC, the boat is a little farther walk, but is pretty much level.

The bus at MK will actually be the least total amount of walking and it is more level ground than the other ways.

At AK, the buses and the Handicapped lot are in different directions, but I would say the distance is fairly similar.
At HS, the bus stops are the closest to the entrance.

There is a poster named Robo who creates some really great maps; hopefully he will be along with one to show you the compartive distances.

The monorail platform isn't right at the MK entrance turnstiles, either. The platform is still a decent walk to the turnstiles, just about the same distance as the bus drop-off area.

EDITED TO ADD:

I can't print it out, but I just went to my favorite runners' website, where you can look at satellite photos and map routes to hudredths of a mile. The walking diistance from where you walk off the monorail to the closest MK turnstile is 0.11 mile. The walking distance from where you walk off a bus to the closest MK turnstile is 0.14 mile. The difference is three one-hundredths of a mile ... I can't see going to the expense of a taxi for a difference of 0.03 mile.
