We're staying in Saratoga Springs in August and we need to get a rental car for a couple of days to do some off-site touring.
I understand that national/Alamo have rental car offices at the car service facility (the big Hess station) and at the Swan/Dolphin. My question is what is the simplest way to get from SSR to either of these places? There doesn't seem to be a bus and someone mentioned a shuttle but I couldn't find any details.
Your help is appreciated.

Hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong. But there might be a car rental place at DTD. Maybe? NOT 100% sure.

Lots of ways to get to the Swan/Dolphin. You can walk to DD and take as shuttle. You can take a shuttle to a park then backtrack to those resorts. You can also take a bus or walk from Hollywood studios. Then there's the taxi. Enterprise will deliver, not sure if any of the others will pick you us but they might. I don't know if there's any rental offices at the Disney Village Hotels but I wouldn't be surprised if there are.

Alamo/national does have a shuttle that will pick you up.
Simply call the location (CCC or S/D) an hour or two in advance.
no charge for this service.

I was just going to start a thread on this very topic because I had a few questions about car rentals. We are going to AKV in June followed by a few days to Vero Beach. I figured it be easier to do the ME from the airport to AKV and then have Alamo come pick us up when are ready for the car. Not sure yet if we want the car while at AKV or only for the trip to Vero- still debating which would be best for us. Is parking free at the parks while we are at AKV? Not related to renting a car exactly, but does anyone know if Kidani will have a shop like the Zawadi Marketplace to pick up some grocery items? That might be a factor for us in deciding when to start renting the car. Thanks.

afaik DownTown Disney Hotels have the following car rentals :

( for OP closest to SSR being Buena Vista Palace, Hilton, Grosvenor, these
are definitely walkable; Double Tree & Best Western as well but these are furthest )

Buena Vista Palace - Natl/Alamo

Grosvenor - Dollar

Hilton - Avis

Double Tree - Budget

Best Western - U Save Care Rental

Yes parking is free at parks while you are at AKV.

iirc, Kidani will have location for grocery items.

Depending on how long you are going to be down there, you should check how much it would be to rent a car at the Orlando airport for your complete trip. We found it cheaper to rent for 7 from Alamo at MCO then for 2 days from Swan/Dolphin.....

Definitely you can call Alamo and they have free shuttle service to the Car Care Center so that you can pick up your rental. And yes, pls do check on pricing because sometimes is cheaper to rent for a whole week than just for a couple of days.

You can walk across the street to the Buena Vista Palace and rent from National. I used it in 2007 and it worked great. ::MinnieMo

Thanks. I'm going too check prices for the whole week for sure.

We are going for 8 nights-4 at AKV, 3 at Vero , and then one more back at WDW but we haven't decided where to spend the final night yet. So either I'm waiting until we are at AKV for one night and then rent the car for the rest of the week. Or getting the car the day that we arrive at AKV and then returning it when we get back from Vero and being without the car for the last night. I

I'd heard that Alamo will pick you up at the hotels so that will work out best for us. Does Alamo have a DVC discount?

I got a GREAT deal from the airline site (we are usig Southwest). It was close to being 1/2 off.

That's a great idea. I could even take the DTD shuttle if I'm extra-lazy. The only downside is that their hours are only 8-4. I'll see if I can work with that.
