Hey Disney Friends!

I am traveling by car to port canaveral this April for a crusie- I was wondering the best option for us on how to get to the port.

option 1: Stay in disney for the night- use a DVC point ( i think SS is like 15) and then take the shuttle bus there. Wondering can I leave my car there? We are DVC members and pass holders, if that makes a difference.

option 2: Stay at a hotel near the port and just park in the garage while on the cruise?

Im just brainstorming here becasue a hotel is around $350, and thats about what the disney bus will cost. So Idk what to do! Help!

I don’t believe you’re allowed to park your car at any Disney resort if you are not staying there. Parking is needed for guests staying at the resort.

If you're already driving, I would just drive to the port. If the hotels right around the port are expensive, maybe look a little further out.

I too agree with @happycamper47 stay at a DVC resort and then drive over to the port. No waiting for the bus and you can get right on the road after the cruise. It’s about an hour drive to the port from WDW, heavy traffic could add 1/2 hour.

We sail a good bit - we use our DVC points to stay at a Disney resort the night before, drive to the port the next morning and park in the parking garage. $17 per day. I wish you could leave your car at a DVC resort and take the DCL bus, but don’t think that is an option.

Some of the hotels near the port will also allow you to leave your car in their lot while on the cruise. Probably have to book a special rate that includes that, but could be worth looking into as another option.

If you can go near the port and get a hotel there, do that. You’ll have plenty of activities to tide you over on the days leading up to your Disney cruise, including the Kennedy Space Center and various shopping opportunities (sadly there are no Disney stores on the Space Coast).

If you still want to go to a Disney resort real bad and the Scrooge McDuck in you along with the rest of your party are willing to, I would suggest pushing the Disney resort stay to AFTER the cruise. Build a few days after the cruise to relax there. You don’t have to go into the parks if you aren’t up for it by that point… the Disney magic on property is so potent it expands into ALL the Disney Resort Collection hotels. Plus, you have Disney Springs and lots of mini golf holes too. Beats going straight back home on debarkation day…

We’ve used private transportation from Orlando, taken the DCL bus from a WDW resort, rented a car and parked it at the cruise terminal as well as driven our personal car all the way to the port. Our preference is to have a car to come back to at the port.
