So Tim and I are hoping to get married in Disney in 2014--we are starting to get an idea and setting a preliminary budget and were wondering if all the wedding day is out of the parks (WP and ADH) would it be bad if I didn't provide transportation? We'd provide it to the DP (which would be our "welcome party") but I don't know if I need to provide it to the ceremony and reception...thoughts?

honestly, as long as options are spelled out, no, you don't have to provide it. is it nice, sure! a must, no. some may disagree, but, i've been to out of town locations for wedding and events and i don't "expect" people to get me from point a to point b.

now, having said that, i would definitely provide all the info possible to folks ahead of time (which they may or may not take in) and i would make every effort to make my planning conducive to people getting around easily - like locations that are close-ish and times amenable to getting around. and, as i think you seem to understand, there are only certain events in which transportation is "mandatory" per DFTW.

we got married at the WP and the reception followed at the GF. we ended up using a limo for the minimum time to take us to and fro and then to loop folks back and forth if they met the limo at where we told them. lots of folks did have rentals anyway. i'm not aware of any problems with what we offered and actually i was glad in the end that we had the limo, our ride over to the GF after pictures was a nice exciting and quiet private time for us.

happy planning!

Just be sure to make it ABUNDANTLY clear that Disney transport doesn't go between resorts, and that your guests will need to allow time to ride to a theme park/Downtown Disney and change buses/boats to get to ADH—like, an hour or more.

I am not planning on providing transportation between the Swan and Polynesian, but I do plan on making it almost part of the wedding for us all to get from one to the other. I want to get pictures everywhere with a dress on. Boats, monorail. I am buffering in enough time between the two locations.

I would love to cut our transportation because man, is it expensive. DF and I talked about it, but the scales tipped in favor of having it....so just to share our mindset, here's what we felt was worth the money vs. the stress:

1. To lurkyloo's point, it takes a deceptively long time to get from one resort to another. We were pretty sure people would underestimate and wind up getting to the ceremony late.

2. Communicating HOW to get there....we suspected that no matter how many newsletters we sent, and how many times we told people to go to our site, people would still be confused.

3. Some of our guests haven't been to Disney in forever, and they're finding it a little overwhelming. Since they're spending time and money to get there, we didn't want it to feel stressful, so we felt like it was a courtesy to offer it.

HTH!
