Hello!

My husband and I are planning our second Disney vacation this upcoming January! :earsgirl:
On our first trip, budget was everything and we stayed WAY off property (had a wonderful time though!) Since that trip, I have always wanted to stay at Disney (may sound silly, but do the whole disney experience) :D
This is my problem (and I am hoping you guys might help!). My husband is a HUGE Universal fan and I am the Disney fan ... this makes booking a hotel rather difficult! He wants a few days to see the Universal parks and none of the Disney hotels (or downtown disney ones that I have found) offer transportation to Universal Studios.
The idea of renting a car kind of scares me (never have before - am rather fond of letting a shuttle take us anywhere!)
Any advice for us? :)

Renting a car should not be considered a scary experience. I've done it many times and wouldn't travel to Disney any other way. My advice - reserve a car with any of the companies that are located in the airport terminal so you don't have to deal with a shuttle bus to some offsite location. Roads in the area are well marked and the rental company should give you a road map when you pick up your car. Getting to Universal from Disney is not difficult - East on I-4 and follow the signs. Plus you'll have a car if you want to explore offsite, get groceries, eat out, etc.

P.S. Check if your auto insurance or credit card covers rental car insurance. Most do, so you can waive the insurance the company charges an arm and a leg for.

I will be staying in the Hilton Hotel at Walt Disney World, I know they have an AVIS car rental office in the hotel. It is an easy 20 minutes drive to Universal.

Hi Chesire,

We are going to both places also (IN 8 DAYS). We booked through Liberty Travel Agency. I know they have an 800 number, but am not sure of it. This is totally against my way, because I like to book everything myself, BUT.....

We are staying 3 nights at the Radisson Maingate Universal and 5 nights at Port Orleans Riverside. We got all tickets included (2 for Universal, 1 Seaworld, 5 disney w/ waterparks and Pleasure Island included. All included under $2000 a couple. I know I could have done this cheaper by myself but thats another story. This way we have transportation to Sea World from Universal and the rest is in walking distance, no car needed.

Give them a call and NO I do not work for Liberty Travel.....

Thanks for the advice :)

Cannot wait for our trip ... only need to make January come faster ;)
