Hi! Staying at the Boardwalk on our next trip and have a few questions:

1. Does the bus to MK stop at any other hotels on the way?

2. How long is the walk from the Boardwalk to HS?

3. Is there bus service from the Boardwalk to HS or is walking/boat the only option?

4. What is the order of stops for the boat to Epcot and HS? (if there even is a set order?)

5. Does the bus to DTD stop at any other hotels on the way?

If any Boardwalk experts can answer any of these questions, it would help a whole lot in our planning!
Thanks!!

1. Typically Swan & Dolphin.

2. Depends on your pace, I'd guess average 20 min.

3. No bus to DHS or Epcot

4. There is a set order - Epcot > Boardwalk > YC/BC > S/D > DHS > S/D > YC/BC > Boardwalk > Epcot

5. Not sure, I always drive to DTD. I think the route goes to all 5 Epcot resorts.

1. Yep, it always stops at the S/D...two stops there, one for each resort. And there will be times that the bus will also make stops at YC and then BC.

2. Between 15 and 20 mins. Depends on your walking pace.

3. Only the boat or your feet. If, for some reason the boats aren't running (usually would be a weather issue) then there will be buses put into service. But that has never happened when I have been there...and that's many stays!!

4. When the boat leaves Epcot, it goes to BW, then YC/BC, then S/D and on to DHS. That is reversed for the return...DHS, S/D, YC/BC, BW, Epcot.

5. Usually only BW/S/D are on the DTD route. There may be times that you could end up stopping at YC/BC but not very often.

1. Every time I have gotten on a bus from BW to MK that has been the last stop before proceeding to MK. Usually the route is Swan/Dolphin/BW. YC and BC have their own bus. Things could be different at midday when bus traffic is slower but that was not my experience in the last two months. Returning from MK you would stop at the Swan first, then Dolphin. If you want a short cut back to BW, get out at the Swan and walk over.

2. About a 15 minute walk from the gates at DHS to Boardwalk at a regular pace. If you move more slowly it will take longer.

3. No buses between the Epcot resorts and either Epcot or DHS. Boat or walking are the only options. There is a bus between DHS and the front gate of Epcot. I have been on buses between BW and DHS for a weather issue once (the boats do not run in lightning storms)

4. Full ride on the boat takes about 25 minutes. From DHS the stops are Swan/Dolphin, Beach/Yacht, Boardwalk and Epcot. Reverse that for returning to DHS.

5. I have never been on a DTD bus that did not visit all five Epcot resorts and in this order: Swan, Dolphin, Yacht, Beach, Boardwalk. Definitely get out at the Swan and walk when you are returning.

Returning from MK you would stop at the Swan first, then Dolphin.

I think this might vary. Last month the bus back from MK dropped off the folks at the BW first (at least the three times I rode it).

As others have said, the only option is to talk from the BW to DHS or Epcot. It's approximately 0.8 miles from the BW dock to the DHS entrance, while the walk to the International Gateway is 0.35 miles. For reference, it's about 0.6 miles from the front of Epcot to the International Gateway.

Normal stop order for MK buses is BW, Swan, Dolphin.

Normal stop order for DTD buses is Swan, Dolphin, YC, BC, BW.

Stop order may vary, especially during peak travel times, and when buses are filling up before reaching the last stop.

THanks....I thought I was not remembering my experiences correctly!! I know that when I board the bus at BW, for MK, and we don't make the right turn to S/D, I'm always thrilled!! Usually, we make that turn though!

Do I understand this correctly?

Boat from the Boardwalk to the Swan
If I take a boat from the Boardwalk, I will then go to Epcot
Question? _ Do I have to get out of the boat at Epcot or can I stay in the boat (I am going to the Swan/Dolphin to eat dinner)
Then from Epcot the boat goes to YC/BC and then to the Swan.

Coming back to the Boardwalk from the Swan.
After dinner, I get on the boat at the Swan and then have to take a long boat ride to Hollywood Studios. Then the boat goes to the YC/BC and then goes to the Boardwalk.
Question - How long does the boat ride from the Swan/DHS/Swan/YC-BC/ending at Boardwalk take?

Each dock has 2 sides. If you want to go to the Swan, get on the side for DHS. The boat will go Boardwalk > YC/BC > Swan.

If you want to go back to Boardwalk from the Swan, get on the Epcot side, it will take you Swan > YC/BC > Boardwalk.

But really, it's a quick walk from the Swan to Boardwalk, the boat will take you alot longer.

If you want to go to the Swan, and use the boat, then you would board the boat headed to DHS. It will then stop at YC/BC, then on to the S/D.
When returning to BW, you would take the Epcot boat..again, it will stop at YC/BC then over to BW.

If you can walk, it's much faster. You will just walk out of the Swan, and turn right and up and over the bridge. Go right about halfway down the bridge...you're at BW. Takes about 3 mins...vs 8-10 on the boat.

Question - How long does the boat ride from the Swan/DHS/Swan/YC-BC/ending at Boardwalk take?

I think the ride takes roughly 30-35 minutes to go from Epcot to DHS (one way).

As others have said, the boats go: Epcot -> BW/BWV -> YC/BC -> S/D -> DHS -> S/D -> YC/BC -> BW/BWV -> Epcot. So you can board at any point, but most folks wait for the boat heading in the direction they want to go. That being said, I don't think they make you get off the boat at either end, so you could technically go from the S/D to Epcot via DHS.

As PP have said, when going from the Swan to the Boardwalk, I would just walk it. There is a walkway over the water (canal heading to DHS) that takes you to the Boardwalk. It's a quick/short walk.
-As you exit the Swan (facing the Dolphin), head to your right.
-Go right at the arch way (that says Boardwalk, it's really easy to see)
-Keep going between the two big buildings (Jellyrolls and Atlantic Dance Hall)
-Veer right onto the Boardwalk
-The resort itself will be on your right after you pass the Screendoor Store (across from the Boardwalk dock).

Robo has really good maps of the walking areas around the Epcot resorts: http://www.stitchkingdom.com/maps/index.php?showmap=13

I have mobility issues due to arthritis and knee problems. I use a walker and although I can walk, I cannot walk very far.

Oh, okay. You may be better off with the boats in that case.

Yes, in that case, it's probably better to take the boat from the S/D dock (0.07 miles/400 feet from Swan main entrance to the dock) to the BW. When you get to the S/D dock, board the boat heading for Epcot. (I think it's the leftward queue, but I can't remember for sure.) The boat will go YC/BC first, then to the Boardwalk. Boats come every 15 minutes or so.

(For comparison, the walk from the Swan to the BW dock is about 0.3 miles.)

Our family visited WDW in July of this year and we stayed at the BWV in the wing near the bus stop (the “Hollywood Studios” wing). Invariably the conversation got around to “Was it better to walk or ride the boat”. So one morning my 10-year-old grandson and I decided to do some investigating. We went to the dock at the Boardwalk and walked to the Hollywood Studios – our pace was 2.8 mph – not fast, but not slow either. The trip took us 17 minutes 50 seconds. For that trip, we walked down past Jelly Rolls but we later determined that if we cut through the BWV pool area, the trip would be 2 minutes 35 seconds faster (15 minutes 15 seconds). We then took the boat from Hollywood Studios to its first stop (the Swan and Dolphin). That ride took 8 minutes and 30 seconds. We got off there and walked to the Boardwalk dock. That took 5 minutes and 15 seconds. From there we walked to the boat dock at EPCOT. Exactly 6 minutes. Next we walked to the boat dock at the Y/BC which took 5 minutes and 30 seconds. And then on to the S/D (again on foot) which took 6 minutes 30 seconds. We then switched to the boat for the 3 minute 30 second boat ride back to the Y/BC. After a 1 minute 45 second stop to unload and load, it was off to the Boardwalk dock. That took 1 minute 40 seconds. We observed that at each stop the boat’s unload/load time was always between 1 minute 40 seconds and 1 minute 55 seconds – except at HS and at EPCOT. Our final boat trip was from BW to EPCOT and that took 3 minutes 30 seconds. On one of our boat trips we had a long conversation with Captain Johnny (we were the only passengers going FROM HS early in the morning). Here’s what he told us: There are exactly 4 boats running from before the parks open until after the parks close. Disney (who runs the boats) is under contract to the Swan and Dolphin hotel to provide this service. The boats are evenly spaced and leave both HS and EPCOT on the hour, 15 after the hour, 30 after the hour and 45 after the hour (aha, that’s why the wait time at the HS and EPCOT docks varies). We checked this out and (at least in July) what Captain Johnny told us was true. So, just like the buses in our hometown, the boats are on a schedule. But the good Captain also told us that there are two addition boats over in the EPCOT lake ferrying people between the countries there – until 7:30 pm (depending on park closing time) when they shift over to the International Gateway dock and are added (as needed) to the fleet to get people back to the hotels as they leave the parks. Incidentally, each boat can hold 104 people. Captain Johnny told us that Friendship 3 and Friendship 8 were the two fastest boats and that Friendship 2 and Friendship 5 were the slowest. At the BW dock, as you walk down the ramp leading to the boats, the boat going to EPCOT is on the right and the one going to HS is on the left. The opposite is true at the Y/BC dock.

We were staying in room 3131 (which is at the very end of the hall) and the walk from our room to the BWV dock was 4 minutes 30 seconds. But there is also a back door which led down to the path to HS and the walk from our room to the path was 1 minute 30 seconds. From this spot on the path, the walk to HS was 10 minutes 45 seconds. Which means (interestingly enough) that from our room in BWV the walk to HS was 12 minutes 15 seconds and the walk to EPCOT was 10 minutes 30 seconds. We always thought we were much closer to EPCOT. It’s also interesting to note how long the BWV halls are. From the furthest end on the Boardwalk View wing (near Jelly Rolls) to the elevator is 575 feet (about a 2 ½ minute walk). From the furthest end on wing nearest the Hollywood Studios to the elevator is 600 feet. From the elevator to the entrance to the BW dock is 300 feet. Sorry to bore you will all these numbers. So what do they mean?

You can walk from the exit of Hollywood Studios to the Bag Check area of the EPCOT International Gateway in 21 minutes and 15 seconds (at a 2.8 mph pace – for those of you who are used to treadmill paces) if you cut through the BWV pool area. 2.8 mph is how fast a grandfather and his 10 year old grandson walk when they are serious about getting from one place to another. The boat, once it leaves the HS dock, takes (on the average) 24 minutes to make the trip to the EPCOT dock. You have to add to that the “wait time” for the boat to arrive at the HS dock. You can cut down on the wait time by remembering that the boats leave either end of their run (HS or EPCOT) on the hour and :15, :30, and :45 after the hour. But it’s always faster to walk although the distance that you have to walk is almost exactly one mile. A lot of people are reluctant to add a mile onto their daily walk total just to save a few minutes. Plus it’s a pleasant boat ride!

On average, once the HS-bound boat arrives at the Y/BC dock, it takes 1:40 to unload and load and another 3:30 to travel to the S/D dock – a total of 5:10. This is the same time it takes to walk from the BW dock to the S/D. So, if you’re at the BW dock and you just missed the boat to HS and it hasn’t left the Y/BC dock, you can catch up with it at the S/D dock.
