Transportation from train station?

I am taking the train in November to Disney. Does anyone know how much it is for a car service/cab to the Disney hotels and what car service should I use for round trip?

We use Amtrak all the time but we detrain in Kissimmee instead of the Orlando station. There are alot of car service options from the Orlando station but we've been using the same one from Kissimmee for 5+ years. This September is costing us 100.00 round trip with a 30 minute grocery stop. We feel thats pretty cheap considering about 5 years ago we used a taxi from the same location and one way it ran us 38 bucks plus tip and no grocery stop and I know cab fares have gone up. My daughter & I are going via AMTRAK in December. I was wondering why you choose Kissimmee instead of Orlando. I haven't bought my tickets yet and I have never taken the train so I would love any advice you have.

We've used Amtrak over 20 times over 35 years and have done the Orlando station long ago. From our experience, Orlando being the first stop headed south, most everyone gets off who's going to WDW, take 100 plus people and the other 100 plus waiting to board, the station is like a mad house. People not knowing where to go, or what to do, dragging luggage in the Florida heat. Some are looking for the baggage off load, rental cars, shuttles, car services or friends picking them up. Kissimmee is the next stop south, about 20 minutes more, small station and the train is in station for only 10 minutes compared to Orlando at 45 minutes +. We've detrained with maybe 10 others, fast to get your luggage from the baggage car and on your way, same way when going home, just a few people, quick and easy when out in the heat. I've been told many a time that Kissimmee station is closer to WDW, when we used to use the cabs, it cost 38 dollars from Kissimme to the MK resorts and once we went back from the MK resorts to the Orlando station via cab, Kissimmee was shut down due to hurricane that went thru, it cost us 50 bucks. That was over 6 years ago. We have a car service waiting for us, we're off in 5 minutes and do a grocery stop right on the way, good Publix's and a liquor store next door. We're in and out lickety split and on our way and at our resort in no time. We also like the area better in Kissimmee. Either place will work but for less chaos and hassle we'll take Kissimmee any day.

Thanks you so much for your clear review. That's a huge help. Sounds like Kissimmee would be much less stressful for a mom & 5 year old traveling alone than Orlando.

If I were in your shoes, I'd get off in Kissimmee. A lot less confusing and very easy to get a cab to your resort. Even if there are none in the cab line, the station master will gladly call one for you. The depot is very small but there is a person on duty, they do check bags at this station and there's a small inside waiting area. We're not ones for alot of people and mass confusion, Kissimmee is quite quaint and a nice station. Hope you enjoy your train trip, I see you're boarding in N. Carolina, your trip will be quite short compared to ours. Bring a blanket, it gets quite chilly to cold after the sun goes down on the train and feel free to bring a cooler with sandwiches, snacks and drinks, it make the trip alot easier than going to the club car or dining car and what you purchase on board is expensive. Also remember, any electronic items must use headphones so to not disturb others. Generally, in coach, lights out is at 10 pm, dimmed more like it. Just sit back, recline your seat, pull up the leg rest and crawl under your blanket and dream your way to WDW. Have a good and safe trip.

None of us have ever rode the train before and thought it would be a great adventure for the kids and save some money. You mentioned to bring a cooler along....what type of cooler - hard or soft side - and what size - lunch size or something a little larger? Where would we store the cooler and our carry-on bags while we are riding? When we stop at each station along the way, will we know it...do all the lights come on and are people constantly up and roaming by? Do we have assigned seats? There are basically four different options to reach Disney from either the Orlando or Kissimmee train stations: taxi, rental car, towncar service, or bus. Given the size of your group, I'm wondering if sending the majority of your party on the Lynx bus (Orlando's public bus system), and then having three or four persons take a taxi (probably still need a van) on ahead with all the luggage to check-in at the resort. That may or may not work given the exact makeup of your group (adults and children), but would likely be the least expensive option. I don't know what the largest capacity taxi-van (or towncar van services) you can request is, but I'm guessing you would still need more than one for 18 people; Sending most persons on the bus (without luggage) avoids that. Lynx bus fare is about $2, you have to make just one transfer. Lynx will deposit you in WDW at the Transportation & Ticket Center. Depending on where in Disney you are staying, someone here can give you precise directions for the quickest, easiest route to your resort from there.

Others here will disagree, but so much of your trip from North Carolina is overnight I personally wouldn't bother with a cooler (beverages and snacks aren't cheap, but they are available from the lounge car). You can store a cooler, though, or any other carry-on baggage in the overhead luggage racks above your seats (I assume you are in coach).

Seats are generally assigned by your coach attendant as you board (who sits where among the allocated 14 seats is up to you, of course). There are people moving about, but its not constant or anything, nor do the lights all come on at night. The biggest thing you will notice is just that the train has stopped moving, unless you happen to be near a section of people detraining at that stop.

Thank you so much for your reply. Since we have never taken the train before it's a little hard to know what to expect. I was looking on line and the train station in Kissimmee closes at 7:00 p.m., but our train doesn't leave Orlando until 7:43. So I'm assuming there won't be many people around to help if we have questions. I'll talk with the group and see which station they want to get off at. When we check in at the departing station can we request to hold 4 seats for the group that we are picking up in SC? As far as a cooler - we were thinking we could use it in our resort room as well since our room does not have a refrigerator just to keep some extra drinks cold. Just wanted to post that we took the Amtrak in December and had a wonderful trip with no problems. We were seated in the long haul car so we did not have people getting on and off all night while we traveled. We exited at the Orlando station and used Tiffany Towncar Service for transportation to Disney World. It was a good experience and we would take the train again.
