Planning to travel to disney by way of train. Anyone know the most affordable way to transfer from station to disney resort?

No, but I did contact Disney and tell them the free shuttle service starting in May should extend to those of us that don't fly!

we have been taking the train to disney for over 6 years. I do not like to fly. when i read about free trans from airport, i thought wow they should really have it at the train stations to. There is usually tons of people on the train with us going to disney to. they would prob. be surprised to see how many people do go by train. We will wait and see..................

I will tell you what I did, but it was alot of work. I called each major car rental company....... Some will come pick you up, at the train station, FREE. They bring you back to their office, you do the paperwork, and go on to WDW. Some require you to arrive by a certain time to do this, however, so ask. (trains can run late, of course, so this had me nervous) Other companies would tell you to take a cab, and they reinburse you. (I worried about THAT too, as there are 6 of us to transport in a cab). It is tricky, because at the 800 number, they sometimes don't know the complete details of what the local office does for this situation. So, I had to get the local office phone numbers from the 800 # folks, or from the website, and called those local offices. We ended up with a minivan from Budget, I think. They had us call when we arrived, they came and picked us ALL (2 adults, 4 kids!) up, with our stuff! We went to a local office, did paperwork, and we were on our way. For the return, we did the same thing, we drove to rental office, and they brought us back to the train station.

This was 5/6 years ago, and things could have changed. In our case, we wanted that rental car to use during the vacation. Good luck!

If you're coming to Kissimmee (which I highly suggest--the Orlando train station is in a scummy part of town) a cab will probably be the least expensive alternative.

Thanks Ducklite,
I've been wondering about that! I've never taken a train before - sort of excited and apprehensive at the same time, y'know?
So, you think I should come in at Kissimmee?

Yes, the Orlando station is in a seedy part of town.

Maybe I should just rent a car...

There are no car rental counters at the train station. Although some places will pick you up, you'd have to call them when you arrive, and wait until they got there.

CoachUSA has shuttles at the Orlando train station to all WDW resorts.

Even if it were less money (which I kind of doubt based on the milage from the Orlando train station versus the Kissimmee train station) I'd still go to Kissimmee and pay cab fare to WDW before I'd get off in Orlando. That area is simply not a place I'd want my family getting off in. We've driven past there a couple times, and it's "shaky". Put it this way, at night I made sure our car doors were locked.

Ducklite,
I have been taking the train to Orlando every year for the past 6 since I bought at DVC. There is a huge crowd, car service too abundant to choose from, and security all over the place. There is no need to be fearful during normal travel times. Anyone that can handle Penn Station can handle Orlando!I'll be there the 20th and can't wait to arrive!!!!! :Pinkbounc
